Default what exactely do i need?

hey everybody!

I've been reading alot about turboing my 1.6 and im more confused than when i started! from what i gathered the Greddy kit can only handle 150hp(6psi) and if i want to go any further than that i need to sell off almost everything but the manifold and the turbo. well the kit is like $1200 and that seems a little steep for something like that! i want to ease into the new hp so i would like to start off at the 150 mark for a while. can i reach this for less than the price of the greddy kit? im only looking at 10-12lbs max on my stock motor. can anyone send me a detailed list or links of what i need to reach this goal? any input would be greately appreciated!!

People that do it cheaply shop around, shop ebay and buy what they can get cheap. There is no definite list and searching will provide you with MANY examples. Such as these using DIY TURBO in the search.

No one is going to hand you a list. Everyone wants different things. Those threads are just examples. Hell go through every single thread you can and read until you get sick of reading about turbo miatas then decided what you want and start shopping. There are too many different ways to do things like manifold/downpipe, tubo (size and type), intercooled or not. It never ends and you will never know it all atleast I sure as hell don't. After going through your searches, ask some questions, get your post count up and watch the For Sale section and ebay like a hawk.

FD, several things will help out. First, fill out the rest of your PROFILE, including your city. Second, fill out a short SIGNATURE listing all your current mods.

It's often that you've done some initial homework prior to posting! BRAVO! If you're set on a Greddy kit, buy a used one. Fully upgraded ones come up for sale all the time. There are several in the classifieds right now.
10-12psi is a lot of power... most setups will put you right at 200rwhp at that boost level. You can however (thanks Braineak) piece together a kit based around a T25 or T3 that will (in the end) save you time and money over a stock Greddy kit followed by upgrades... and get you more power.

Here's my build thread, covers a lot of the pains I went through deciding what to buy. I've done some things different since then, but it'll get you started: https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4455
