Default Me thinks it's dyno time!

After 4 long months getting it together, I think it's ready to get strapped to a loaded dyno for some fine tuning.

I drove it for 6 days straight without a single thing failing, i think thats a record. So far my street tune is pretty spot on. New intercooler is badass.

I agree. That all looks good. Are you running a knock sensor?

sure ain't mister.

and just because i know people will ask: the spark drop is my soft limiter, which dropped the spark table to 10°, the jagged WB signal at redline is the hard cut.

hmm, i should get on that EBC bandwagon... it's gotta be nice to actually hold desired boost till redline, instead of watching it just slowly drop off between 5 and 7k...

here's a question about your tuning process, brain, since i'm trying to get better at this game.

is it mostly MLV work or are you hand tuning/smoothing your map? going out, making a couple pulls, looking and adjusting? or longer drives?

it started with hand tuning, with no enrichments on. This made it so i was able to at least drive it without any lean/rich spikes. once I got a good cruise and idle and boost I started logging and going from there.

Then I just drove to and from work, making sure to hold a lot of cells in cruise and hit some boost. My drive is 15-20 minutes, lots of good data to use, stop and go and a bit of 60mph cruising.

Every time I'd log it and MLVer it once I reached my destination. Then as the tune got better, I stated using "very hard" in MLV so it only makes changes if it absolutely deemed it necessary.

This morning I just turned Accel Enrichments on. And now I'm just tuning them.

The biggest reason for the dyno is to tune the spark map for my engine, the last piece of the puzzle. I'll probably add a wee bit more boost before then.

i'd be curious to see what the knock sensor you dont have would say about spikes of 19:1 AFR at 13 psi.

Like i said, that was fuel/spark cut, so it probably wouldn't say anything but "lots of noise here chief"

wow, i am amazed at how you guys dont even use knock sensors to tune.....tuning my 2 subaru's and the other 10 that i did with rom raider, i rely heavily on knock sensors (knock correction, feedback knock correction, fine learning knock correction) to tell me when to back off the timing or get on it. also are you using a wide band to monitor afr's? sorry if these are annoying/noobish questions, but im really looking forward to tuning my miata myself like the suby's

edit - nevermind, just noticed it says wb02

the 90-94 can "see" knock. spark timing is low enough and AITs low enough where I know it's not going to knock. I've run a lot more advance before, with a smaller ICer and more boost. I need to go to a loaded dyno to tune the spark better, so i can actually see/hear/know when i get ping when.

ya, ya, ya. one step at a time. I'm still not going to run more than 13-14psi on my block. I'll probably tune it for 12 flat and call it a day. I'm happy with my 200 torque thank you very much.
