Hey guys i bought a turbo a while ago that had some play in the shaft i finally got round to stripping it down to rebuild but i am unsure if the shaft is beyond repair. Its worn where the bearing have been sitting.You can see where both bearing have worn into the shaft,The question is do peep think this is is salvageable with new bearing and service kit or is it new shaft time?

the discoloration suggests under-oiling. If that's truly wear on the shaft, compared to my t3 shaft, that's pretty significant.

 

Its has defo worn into the shaft you can feel a slight drop in width, I agree i presume its previous owners oil feed was crap. Its from a greddy td04h

 

you could get a new shaft from gpopshop.com along with a rebuild kit and go to town on it.

 

cant find any info on there site for a new shaft price. Need it in the uk asap

 

for a new T3 shaft/turbine it was $125 when I asked...time to email them i guess.

 

You could turn the whole shaft down to the width of that part and use thicker bearings, but I'm not sure what that'd do to the strength of the shaft. Probably better to just get a new one. Either way you'd have to balance it.

 

You gotta lube up your shaft or youll tear it up

 

I have emailed them thanks. If i can get a new shaft then thats my best option.

Was thinking i could maybe ad weld to the shaft then turn down to standard shaft size??

 

I wouldnt reccomend that... The tolerances are too tight to make it perfect. plus its a very smooth surface. Not to say its not possible but its not worth your money to pay someone to do it.

 

i may try to add weld to the shaft and then turn down to size on a small lathe. If it dont work i will get a new shaft.

To do it right (workably right) you'd have to hard chrome it and grind it as well I suspect. $125 is cheaper and less hassle...

 

I have been quoted $155+$35 postage to scotland.

I would never suggest rebuilding yours.
