Either Sav or Ark broke the ring/pinion gear. I'm looking into swapping either a ford 8.8 or the entire TII rear end.

Miata Roadster makes billet axle hubs for the miata which retains factory miata rear bearings, brakes, wheels, etc... But they accept the TII Rear axle for a complete swap.

Next problem I've been working on is transmission -- I have a Tremec TKO I'm planning on using but it looks like I'll have to make an adapter plate.

I'm going to be doing the ford 8.8 from one of the V8 swap kits available. That way it will work now and if I decide to go with a V8 later it's already done.

On the Torsens, it is the actual Torsen gears that fail. "Ask me how I know."

I thought that was the case with Savington as well?

No experience with open 1.8 diffs though.

Oh I couldn't remember if it was the ring/pinion gear or the torsen gears.. That sucks.

Maybe Sav can chime in and verify but I am pretty sure the pictures he posted were identical to mine - the torsen gears split and shattered a bunch of the others. I posted when I broke mine a year back and alot of people suggested cryo treating the gears, I really think that is the key to making a Torsen survive serious drag abuse. On the other hand, my 2nd torsen is still going strong and I didn't cryo it. *knock on wood*

Eaton makes diffs? IMO the "easiest" solution is to swap the internals from the 7" RX7 LSD (Clutch type?). Not the strongest, but most likely the easiest if you don't want to take on the TII swap.

Maybe i will pick up a 1.8 open diff and swap the rx7 stuff in and then sell my torsen.

I have heard great things about them, I am not sure if anyone else has experience with them. I dont know anything about diff's however. I dont know how easy it would be to put it in but it does have instructions lol.

You'll laugh for me even mentioning it.. What about that OBX LSD? Its around 450$ IIRC. Had a friend with an 8 second drag civic that ran an OBX LSD... Blew the trans several times but not the differential..

Hmm it might be worth looking into. Swap the obx lsd into the 1.8 open diff case and sell my torsen. I could probably have a wash there. Or maybe close to.

Idk, I have a hard time trusting anything OBX. But someone has to be the test mule.
