Default Blouch/FM turbo "old Big Enchilada" MSM quarter mile

Went to a track rental with the 2004 MSM today.

Car is an "old big enchilada" with the rare Flyin Miata Blouch modified stock turbo.
Now uses a Haltech PS1000 ECU (my tune), 550cc injectors, 3.63 gears and so on.

Boost target is ~206kpa and the engine is untouched internally.

No slicks this time, just Falken RT-615K's

12.762@106.55 mph
I'm car #32

Looks like you drove it well. 1.8 '60 is good on a miata IMO. Quick et too. I expected trap to be a bit higher, since if I remember correctly you're supposed to be over 250whp?
Solid pass either way though.

Thanks. The power peaks early with the junk VTCS manifold. I think the trap speed is hidden there.

Yup. I'd expect another 5-6mph with the VTCS gutted or a VICS manifold.

Hell of a 60' for street tires, though! I am impress!

I'm not. I bet that thing could touch 110mph with a manifold that didn't blow chimps for food stamps.

Oh wait, i see what you meant. I'd go VICS/squaretop first, but i bet it would pick up with the VTCS bullshit gutted as well.

I disagree with that so much that I would be willing to let him borrow a squaretop just to settle this.

I can see 1-2, but 6mph? nope

*edit: I realize I'm coming off negative, so I want to clarify to the OP that I'm not, and I still think its a solid time and good job.

I agree mostly. I think it would pick up around 2-2.5 mph. I have to run what I think of as excessive timing to prop up the torque curve up top right now. Like I ramp it up 4-5 degrees more than in the midrange. I think with a proper manifold and retune it would be much, much stronger up top.

BTW, you wouldn't want to sell that squaretop outright, would you?

Damn, your MPH is almost identical to mine... on my 13.5 second run. I need a good clutch so bad it is killing me! I can't launch at anything over around 2000 RPM or I get clutch slip, so I have horrible 60' times.

Go with what I got, The FM level 2 clutch. Use the stock flywheel though, it's hard enough to launch with the stock one...

I already have the ACT pro-lite flywheel in the car... but I was seriously considering the FM level 2 clutch already. I will live with the ACT HD for the winter (have to turn the boost down anyway) and change it out next spring. I will also get some drag radials for the stock 15 x 6's for the spring

Thanks for the recommendation,

Keith

For what you would spend on DR's, I would get full on slicks. They are WAAAAAY easier on axles and CV joints.

I broke three axle shafts in my Mustang on DR's on motor. They took 6k rpm launches spraying out of the hole just fine with 26" slicks.

Interesting... I thought about a 23" tall slick, but the "local" drag strip is 1.5 hours drive. I can't drive like that on slicks without ruining them can I? I don't really want to install a tow bar so I can haul slicks and tire change tools on a trailer.

Search google images for "Slevin Miata" and you'll see a tire rack that's kinda cool.

No, they won't make the drive. Baby trailer or stuffing them in the car is necessary.

I wonder if I could fit one in the trunk with the floor jack / tools, and another in the passenger seat? I don't bring the spare tire with me to the track anyway, so there is a bit of room in the trunk. I am a big fan of using the right tool for the job, and a drag slick at a drag strip meets that requirement
