At PRI, I heard a major vendor of rolling road chassis dynos telling prospects that they didn't need to strap anything down if it made less than 300 hp. I wanted to LOL. I'm sorry but that's like saying it's ok to play Russian Roulette with a 9mm but not with a .45.

Every dyno accident video I've seen shows a car strapped with less than 4 straps. Sometimes they have a strap going through one door and out the other. Sometimes they have wheel chocks on the non driven wheels. And often they have a bunch of idiots standing on the door sills or sitting in the trunk.

I just can't imagine how the shop owner and/or tuner would want to take that kind of risk with life and property, especially when the risk can be completely mitigated at the cost of 1 minute per strap.

Chocks are awesome.

I would never dyno a car unless all 4 corners were strapped down.

BEN, what are you talking about, the front straps are connected to the front tie downs, they most definitely are connected to a structural point on the car

Ahh, I see- it can "drift" off.

Oh this is great

and

ooh lol

For this video I like how they used the fat guy to solve the problem. I see the strap through the door too

This one is pretty cool

Apparently if you have a dump tube, don't point it at the strap...

I see one strap. Either way, one or two, that's less than 4. The ideal number is 4.
Despite their name, the front tie down hooks on the front of the Miata are not very good tie down points for this sort of thing.

Which is one reason why we own that type of dyno.

Yes it is!. We do it that way.!
By the way. You sense of humour is AWESOME.

I don't remember very well, It was many time ago. But it was more than two stripes. I'm now sure if they add more stripes in cars with AWD or RWD with 400+ WHP (I know that the photo Betray me).

Now, is time to do a new dyno. I currently replacing the TD04 turbo for a VF35. maybe I will have a few more ponyes.

After saw those videos surely I will ask for more stripes.
