Pulling the line should make it spool as fast as it possibly can, then I can see if there is something else going on causing the slower spool.

Only other thing I can think of is the intercooler I have is the begi #2 which is a little larger than average I guess, but I don't think it would affect it that much? I know it's not exhaust since all I have is like 2 feet of 2.5" straight pipe...

Mech5700 01-16-2015 12:02 PM

And when I wired/plumbed the solenoid, I blew thru the line at 100%, and got no flow, and at 0% I got flow thru to the wga. So "normal" settings are in place.

Possibly wastegate arm on too loose? Just throwing ideas out there. All bolts tight, no exhaust leaks between turbo and manifold? No leaks between center section and turbine housing?

Arm is tight, has a nice preload on it.

Bolts are still where I left them, and locked with stage 8 hardware.

No other obvious signs of an exhaust leak.

Strange. Timing is next step I think. Brain, do you think it's safe to copy/paste my tuning over to his? Any precautions?

This was after a few pulls and messing with PID. I dropped the delta to 14kpa, raised the min duty to 20%, dropped control interval to 20ms. No changes to timing or boost tables. Target was 197. Peak boost was 196, fluctuated roughly 4 kpa, but hit peak at just over 4600RPM. Looks like just more tweaking is what I need. Will lower sensitivity a bit and maybe add some D to try and smooth it out.

Giving up on CL for now. Went back to OL, gave Chi's ignition table a shot and went for about 13 psi. Got it decently stable, but I don't think this thing can spool up any quicker. Holding at 100% DC till right before target, hits 10 psi about 4400rpm, peaks at 13 just before 5k on a 4th gear pull.

Attachment 234467

Attached tune, a log of a 4th gear pull, and a 2nd into 3rd rip.

Hitting the boost target so late almost looks like stock exhaust.

Mech5700 01-20-2015 12:00 PM

:( all its got is a 2 ft piece of 2.5 straight pipe...

Mech5700 01-22-2015 08:21 PM

I think I got it!

Changed a few things around in the EBC settings, and worked the boost DC% table a little bit and got a lot better control now. I'm holding the valve closed as late as possible to hit 15 psi ASAP, but not overshoot by much. 15 psi @ 5k, peak 15.5 psi @ 5200, and only drops to 14.8 psi by redline. Not bad?

What do you think now?

curly 01-22-2015 08:41 PM

I think my 1.6 has nearly that boost at 3500ish, and I've been told that's not great.

I also think I tuned one that hit 25 psi by 4,xxx.

Mech5700 01-22-2015 08:43 PM

damnit.

maybe the 2860 is not for me?

Chiburbian 01-22-2015 10:06 PM

When did you do your timing belt? I am just throwing stuff out there at this point but your spool seems uncharacteristically slow.

You are holding boost really reliably though. Good job on that.

Mech5700 01-22-2015 10:12 PM

Not sure on belt, looked at it not too long ago when I had the VC off for somethin.

I am proud of the "pattern" tho, thank you :)

Mech5700 01-22-2015 10:19 PM

Does anyone have a log screenshot like mine to compare? Showing dc%, rpm, psi, etc...

I'd like to see if it's normal for the dc% to increase with the higher rpm range to keep the psi constant.

Just a word of advice. My ignition table got changed quite a bit by Scott Clark of DIYautotune. He didn't feel it was safe. I'd happily give you the updated version, but I think at some point having someone who knows what they are doing (spark wise) do some work on it would be a good idea.

I would think that one solid row of 100% at 2500 would be fine and then you could either break up the 3250-4250 spread (since there seems to be quite a big change) or spend the extra resolution somewhere where it might be useful.

Mech5700 03-17-2015 02:35 PM

I think I found out why I have that later spool...

During disassembly today, I see .86 on the turbine housing...
