Default ECU discussion. Link PNP vs MSPNP

Okay. I just typed this out and then closed the page on accident so here we go again.

Please read the whole post before commenting as i may be very wrong is some of my assumptions.

I am looking to pull the trigger on a standalone for my 95 Miata. I want to run a Link MX5Link. It is a Link G4X Ecu that fits in a Miata ECU housing. What i dont understand is that i can not find any information on the ECU's throughout miata forums or anything, I dont understand it.

For those that do not know. Link makes a PNP ECU for Miatas that are practically a full Link G4X ECU that fits into a miata ECU housing. So it is a very powerful ECu in a PNP format. Just as the MS is however, the link ECU is much more widely supported with tuning and just general backing. Link ECU's are hugely supported throughout the industry and are used everywhere and in everything with great success. The MS is absolutely the tried and trued standalone option for miatas however MS is very limited in use and support outside of that. I have only ever really seen a MS in a miata with very small exceptions so the support is much more limited just by simple math. Now i could be very wrong in that assumption as MS does offer ECU's for many other chassis and the also offer there own full standalones. So correct me if i am wrong but from my experience and knowledge MS is much less used and supported as a whole.

Comparing the two it seems cut and dry. The Link is cheaper at just under $1000 USD compared to the MS3PRO at $1200 USD. The Link also offers more features the MS. Just as an example the Link has up to 4 analog inputs whereas the MS only offers 2 (3 if you do some modding yourself), among many many others. Just looking at a few things like feature sets, price, and support i dont see why people are not using this ECU.

I have been looking all over the place for information regarding this ECU but cannot seem to find anything. With how great of a reputation Link has and a quick look at the spec sheets I dont see why there is not at least more discussion on this.

I will include links to both ECU's for people to view side by side and to view if the Link is new to people.

Link MX5Link- https://dealers.linkecu.com/MX5X
MS3PRO PNP- https://www.diyautotune.com/product/...-manual-trans/

So is anyone out there using these Link ECU's or anyone with experience with them?? I would like to gather some information on these before i just say screw is and buy one.

You make this claim that "the link ECU is much more widely supported with tuning and just general backing." then go one to say you can find nothing about running one or supporting it on the miata.

The Link also does not have knock support, and claims "most oem features work" which ones do and do not work? Also not sure how one model supports PNP for 90-07. There are 3 different wiring changes through out the years. Not sure how exactly they handle that.

When I said Link is more supported i meant as a whole not this one specific ECU. I should have clarified that.
And as for "most oem features" and how they handle the wide year range. I do not know. These are questions i would like the answer to there just doesnt seem to be information out there and why i made this post. I would like input from people that have used it or have experience with it.
Like i said i may be very wrong with some of my "claims" I am simply trying to find information on it as I was not able to find it anywhere else.

I guess what I am trying to same is that the Link G4 is NOT WELL SUPPORTED on the miata platform. I don't think I have seen any US based builds around it. I believe there are a few people in Australia that use it. The fact that you can find almost nothing should tell you that the support is not high.

Saying that if you have a tuner who knows the Link software and hardware. I don't see any reason why you could not get the car running on it. You will just be relying on that one guy for future support.

The last time the LINK ecu was actively used in the miata market was when FM used it almost 20 years ago.

Also, the MS3PRO is not the only Megasquirt available for the Miata. There's the Basic MS3 for example that has 5 spare analog inputs, so more than the Link, and at $980 shipped, it's cheaper than the Link as well.

Check out KO Racing in Oregon City, Kris, the owner, is making PNP Links for all Miata platforms, with a custom adapter board for all wiring variations throughout the years. He'll do remote tuning as well.

Comparing the current Link ECUs to those sold by FM 20 years ago is like saying Rev's MS3 basic is the same as a Bipes unit.

Knock control and internal wideband are available, Kris usually insists on including those two features, along with fuel pressure monitoring.
