Default Thoughts on Rusefi uaEFI

I'm wondering why there is not much talk about the rusefi uaefi on this forum. https://www.shop.rusefi.com/shop/p/u...affordable-efi
It has quite a bit of features for the price! (on board wideband, drive by wire, knock input, etc)
Seems like a good option for a miata build.
You have to take the time to wire it however...

What are your thoughts on this uaEFI?

There are a few rusefi based options i know of, beermoneymotorsports selling pnp's, along with epicefi being a rusefi variant working on pnps and adapter boards. From what ive heard the bmm ecus are somewhat tricky to tune, though ive never played with it. The epicefi adapter I tried was very good, being however much the speedyefi pnp i bought was + 60$ for an adapter board, getting lots of ms3 level features for that cost was cool. I never sorted some trigger issues with it, so im not entirely sure how it wouldve done in the long run. The firmware is promising and still getting support.

There are always options for people who want to save some money, but its important to note that majority of the money you save is going to get you something less tried, less tested, or with worse build quality/effort in the hardware and software. That doesnt ALWAYS mean more issues, but its naive to not expect hiccups.

I am running a UaEfi since they came out 2 years ago. I have a 1997 miata full Kraken setup with a GTX2860r gen2.
I was on a Speeduino UA4C for 3 years before. The UaEfi is WAYYY better than the Speeduino.
The close loop stuff works great. Close loop boost, fuel, idle ....
Integrated Wideband controller, 2 H bridge to run ETB and electronic wastegate
I am using a VW wastegate actuator and it is awesome. I can set the boost from 0 to all of it, no spring to mess with.

I just switch to the EpicEFI firmware on the UaEfi. It has even more feature than RusEfi on the same hardware.
I wired it with Aliexpress connector to make it plug and play ant not cut the car wires. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...199a1802Mzt6A7

Bet keep in mind there is not much info online other than the github. You have to have a good understanding of all the car system to build a good starter tune.
It is time consuming to go trough every menu in TS to set everything up.
There is no good base tune for the UaEfi.

Thanks for the replies guys.
@adam86 your build is similar to what I plan on doing : stock rods and PSR2860r gen2 as it fits the budget. But for this to work, good control is mandatory to avoid overboosts!
With the electronic wastegate actuator, can you achieve more precise boost control than with a MAC boost controller?
And are you using a 36-2 crank trigger?

The Uaefi is definitely more complicated than an PNP, but its an opportunity to learn and I feel its worth a shot. I absolutely wont cut the car wires so thanks for the connector link. If I get fed up with tinkering on the UaEFI, I'll just have to buy a PNP and plug it in.

The lack of base tunes is probably the most important barrier to entry. even more than wiring
There are a few tunes here : https://rusefi.com/online/?sorts[uploadedMsq]=-1&sorts[uploadedLog]=-1 (I see you shared yours! )
Are there tunes available elsewhere?

@SiRAutoX The EWG react faster and have better control over boost . But it is WAY more complicated to tune and if you are not used to tuning closed loop PID, you should go for a std wg actuator. The big benefit of the EWG is that you can have 4psi or 20psi no spring change required.

You will need to port the WG on the PSR2860r gen2, they boost creep alot if you dont do it. A EWG will not correct this.

I have a 36-1 trigger wheel from a Mazda protege part # ZM0111408, fluidampr crank pulley, toyota COP conversion. If you plan to push the stock engine make sure to not overrev it and ramp up the boost gradually to not make all the torque a low rpm. I ramp from 10psi to 14 at 6000rpm+. makes 250Whp and 211wtq. I beat the hell out of it for 10k miles now, not issue.

Thanks for the details!
Indeed the mid rage torque needs to be limited and ramped.
For others that are interested in the Rusefi Uaefi, Throttlebuddies on youtube makes good videos about installing one in a miata and about tuning in general : https://www.youtube.com/@throttlebuddies0
