Default megasquirt 1 or 2?

I recently bought a 1990 1.6 miata and have been lurking these forums for quite some time now. I have read almost 90% of the greddy emanage and megasquirt topics. And I have come to decide that the megasquirt would be best for what I want to do. Now here are a few questions I have hopefully you guys can answer them. I can take criticism very well so with that being said...

I want to run at least 10 psi and delete my AFM and get around 180 to to the rear wheels. I have collected

Ebay manifold
Ebay small front mount
1997 1.8 injectors
Tdo5 turbo

And im still buying things as is go along. But my main goal is to get at least 180 to the rear wheels! But im stuck with engine management. I have 450 to spend and looking at the DIY megasquirt for my. Should I get version 1 or version 2? And will just the basic kit work or would I have to get all the "mod" kits?

Yes, but only if you're on *really* good terms with the folks at DIY.

Seriously, though...

MS1 is dead. Forget it.

MS2 and 3 are similar in many ways, and the MS2 is a perfectly adequate and capable ECU. It lacks certain bells and whistles, and the code development for it is kind of stalling out as attention shifts to the MS3, but I'd have no problem at all recommending it for a new install on an NA.

If its a 9093 MSPNP (first gen), I'd consider it, especially if its a great deal. But otherwise Definitely a MS2.

What "ebay manifold" did you purchase? I don't want to jump at your throat quite yet, as there's a small chance it's the one cast side mount manifold that's on ebay, but otherwise, prepare to be called an idiot.

I bought the log cast manifold for 120.00. Does anyone build the megasquirt? I tried to contact braineak a few times but nothing back. So I might just purchase the megasquirt 2 and see about having soneone build it.

Are you planing on purchasing prebuilt or building your own? Obviously MS3 is the best but MS2 would do the job just fine.
Or DIYPNP would be great option, and its very close to your budget. Check out Brain's thread on MF, www.miataforumz.com

Edit: Here is a chart that compares the units, www.mslabs.gr.

I wouldn't.

There are just so many things wrong with the MS1 that never got fixed... Even for a 1.6, a basic MS2 is about the absolute minimum I'd use. Hell, I put an MS3Pro in my last 1.6. That ECU cost more than the car did.

Try Reverent on here as well. Him and Braineack both build, although Braineack is harder to get a hold of. He's a busy and very lazy person. And usually has a back log of customers.

Reverent is from Greece (I think), builds more megasquirts faster, has a bunch of really nice features in his "enhanced" megasquirts, but charges appropriately for those features, and I'm not sure if he has a back log or not.

I'm sadly still on a home made MSI. I've experienced a gen 1 MSPNP, and think I've seen faster computing with it, however I could be wrong. And the MSII might very well be leaps and bounds above even the MSPNP. I really need to get my hands on an MSII...

My experience includes back firing. Setting over run cells to 10 degrees on my MSI results in a pop about three times every second. Friends MSPNP sounds twice as fast. Is this random coincidence? That's really all I'm relating it to and I don't want to spread incorrect information.

I have had both an MS1 and MS2 in my car. Will never do an MS1 again. MS2 ran worlds better than the MS1. Not as good as a 3 but gets the job done.

Ok so my question has been sorty answered then I will stay away from mega squirt 1 and then purchase a megasquirt 2. But bext question is....is there anything special other then the GM AIT sensor that I need to run boost? I deleted my ac and have full heater still. But if I buy the basic diy kit is that all I need or there are more things needed?

I came across these 2 pre built units... which one would be best and will they both run with the AIT sensor?

MegaSquirt-II EMS System - SMD PCB3.57 w/ Black Case DIYAutoTune.com

MegaSquirt-II Engine Management System w/PCB3 - Assembled Unit DIYAutoTune.com

All Megasquirts can use all the same sensors.

Both of those units will require numerous internal modifications to work with a Miata (cam sensor input, logic-level ignition outputs, idle driver output). Since you are looking at pre-assembled units, I assume that you are uncomfortable soldering on the main board. I *think* that DIY will perform the necessary modifications for you, for a small fee.

If you're patient and act quickly once you see one you should be able to find a used MS2 in the classifieds configured for your year car and price point.
