Ok, I have to ask:

What the hell does "Cat pigeons socialising" mean?

I just wanted to keep things on the sorta, lighter side not take it all too seriously. I knew that asking questions with regards the MS was a bit like questioning someones religeous beliefs. Cat among the pigieons more a pigeon among the cats as I fairly new to tweaking turbos though not to cars or motorbikes having had quite a few, best regards

I never said my mates was a 1.8.... but FWIW there were a few 1.8's registered in late 93.

BTW I don't need any history on the MX5, I'm well aware of it's past :P

I will have a chat with my insurance underwriter as to where they stand on non CE marked home built ECU's.
You're over thinking this quite a lot. Your insurance is highly unlikely to care about the brand, mine certainly didn't give a toss what brand it was, just that it wasn't OEM/was a modification.

There are hundereds of MegaSquirt powered MX5's in the UK, the vast majority of which will be properly insured, (there are always some ********* ). and there will be hundreds of thousands of cars in the UK with non OEM ECU's fitted, perfectly legally.

So when you typed this

Ha, well my mate had a 93 SE BBR in black. Search for a member called 'KFC' on www.mx5nutz.com he has a black 18. BBR.

Errrrr

And yet history is a matter of who wrote what. Loadsa info on t'internet

Overthinking an insurance policy, get it wrong and that person you just killed because of some unknown fault that was traced back to something you installed, and the insurance wont pay up.

You do things your way senior and I will do my thang my way :-)

Manufactured items have to have public and professional liability insurance, I carry 2 million GBP and no lives are at risk.

eh?? I already stated I'm insured properly, I'm telling you you don't need worry, the ins company isn't going to throw a fit.

Stop being so defensive!

Ahh so two different cars/people must have been a later privately done one.

Being too defensive? "WTF? I'm from the UK noob..." So would you not consider that statement to be somewhat aggressive?

As I have already said you do your thing I will do mine, I'm not criticising your choices so why criticise mine, the cars sorted its properly insured and I am happy with it.

If circumstances chance I may convert a later 1.8, or buy another Porsche dunno time will tell.

KFC's 1.8 BBR was done from new

Don't want to sound like I'm teaching you to suck eggs, but just to check, you know if you moved to a 1.8 you'd need to replace the manifold as the engines are different lengths.

Oh and the noob comment? you jumped down my throat accusing me of discrimination, don't throw stones in glass houses and all that...

Haha nice one Kotomile like it

Yes from new but by whoom and under what warranty etc but hey ancient history.

I meant buy the whole car then do a project on it converting it not try to shoehorn a new engine into an old car, for what they cost.

The first response from you was,

"Odd to ask this question about a UK only car on a US based forum..."

Which is why I asked about discrimination.

My question was purely based upon the use of piggybacks v MS nothing to do with where the car was converted just the principles behind how best to have it running to my satisfaction.

The BBR intercerptor is prone to failing, but if the car is left absolutely alone, it's absolutely fine and won't break anything
