I found the CAM signal on a 90-93 wiring diagram, like you said it was 2F and 2G.
But I'm not sure about the wiring diagram for the 96. Shouldn't there be two different diagrams for european and american 96s, since the european 96 is "almost" like a 90-93?
The two last images are in the wrong order.
I hope you can see them.

yeah don't get confused by looking at the '96 in those manuals because they are for U.S. where they ONLY got the 1.8 after 1994!

european or japanese wiring diagrams are something I never came across.. would be good if someone knows where to get them..

A little update I've been super busy the last couple of weeks. But I did check the fuelpump with the help from a friend. And it is working as it should. Only thing that seems to be missing is the spark. I also called the Mazda dealer for a wiring diagram for a european 1996, but haven't recieved anything yet.

Have you verified that the coils have power? Are you able to check the signal coming in to the coil pack with an oscilloscope or scopemeter? If there is a pulse and +12V there, you have may have killed the coil pack with the "reversed jump". If there is no signal, something isn't quite right with your ECU (wiring or configuration).

Finding EU wiring diagrams for Miatas is hard. I've always gone on the US ones and just had to fumble around to find the differences. When looking at a UK Haynes manual, it didn't had enough detail to show those differences anyway (and they're always a bit hit-or-miss with regards to both completeness and correctness).

I've been kind of fixated on the possibility that those pins might be switched around. But I'm not sure which ones it is. I tried reading the megasquirt pinout list to see where everything should go. But I can't make sense of it... I don't understand where those cam sensor wires should go on the pinouts.. And now I'm starting to think that I'm on a wild goosechase. And that the problem might lie elsewhere since I never got it to idle and die after i reversed the poles. Also the fuel pump works, so the problem shouldn't be the same as yours right? I don't have an oscilloscope, I have a multimeter though. So I could check for a signal on the coils at least. I'm going to try first thing tomorrow.

This is the only wiring diagram I've found where all the wires from the CAM sensor are the correct colors which matches my car.

There's +12V coming to the coil pack. I'm not sure about my resistance measurements on the primary side since my multimeter only goes down to 1ohm. But I'm getting 2ohm between the +12V and the other pins. And I'm wondering if I can use an insulation tester on the secondary side since it's value is in Kohms. I'm just worried about the test voltage being to high. Also 3 out of the 4 coil plugs going to the sparkplug wires are pretty corroded.

If the fuel pump runs, no, you do not have that issue I had.
