What ECU to change to?

Default What ECU to change to?

So, I finally managed to get my 99AE to be tuned yesterday... Seemed like it was going well, but then went South again really quick. While the Microtech can work fine, the problem is, you need someone that really KNOWS it, inside and out to get it to work right. My tuner is great, but has no experience with Microtech.

So, as I have no stock ECU at all (replaced by the Microtech), what should I look at replacing my current LT-10s with, and where would I need to go to get it?

Hmm, unfortunately we don't have a lot of folks here with after market ecus. And if they do they're generally $1000s of dollars.

Bunch of options. The 2 most popular around here are adaptronic and megasquirt.
Hit up Travis @ B.E. for an adaptronic e440c
Hit up Reverant for a megasquirt DIYPNP

Both are great and both are sponsors of the site and both can set you up with a unit.

Or start watching the classifieds like a hawk for a used one.

And lastly, if you didn't understand curlys sarcasm: SEARCH NOOB

Speaking of Travis, anyone ever hear from him recently? I've been emailing him to get an ETA on my replacement ECU but not getting a reply.

What would need to be done with a (MegaSquirt-III EMS System with MS3X Expansion V3.57 - Assembled) to get it hooked up and running?

You need an adapter harness to plug into your Miata's harness. You need an AIT and wideband sensor mounted and wired into the MS. Laptop to plug in and tune.

That's about it, although I'm not sure if that unit needs any hardware modifications to work properly with a Miata. Ask the

Yep... Am looking to get an MS3X to replace my current Microtech LT-10s. With the assembled version, is there any hardware modifications that need to be made to it, or does it just need to be wired in and tuned from scratch?

I have in the DIY turbo forum, but also added it to my sig...

A lot of what I have I am not completely sure on, though I know I need a turbo that will hold boost, better plumbing to the IC, and an ECU that the tuner I am working with here can work with better. He is a fantastic tuner, just has minimal experience with Microtech, which is definitely a system that you have to have a LOT of experience to get running properly.

I can build you a fully plug and play ECU for your car and to your specs for $740 shipped if you can find another person. There is already one person def intererested; I need at least 3 to be able to offer this price.

What the **** is wrong with your tuner? Doesnt know microtech, thats like saying your hairdresser doesnt know how to use a new pair of scissors. Its not a complicated ecu or tuning software, fire him.

This is correct. If he can't tune a microtech, then he shouldn't be tuning anything at all.

How does your PnP compare to the MS3X? Are there any features on the 3X that aren't on your custom PnP?

Major features on the MS3:

- 0.1 resolution on the fueling table
- 16x16 spark tables (12x12 on the MS2)
- SD card datalogging
- VVT (not of interest to you though)
- More I/O

Features on my PnP not available on the MS3X:
- Alternator control
- Smart battery light
- Awesome A/C control, almost like stock on my latest units
- P/S idle compensation
- CEL control (progressive overheating warning)
- Little things here and there that make the car have more of stock feeling Vs the MS3 (I had a MS3 on my car for several weeks).

BDOHANEY, where are you located? IMO the MT is an entirely capable ECU and there is no reason to spend more time and money on another ECU. In it's standard mode, the MT does have a very unique method of tuning fuel that someone with a lot of experience with systems other than MT may have never encountered. The matrix mode is much more conventional. Once you understand the standard mode, you can scratch out a tune that's very close to optimum very quickly. Either way will give good results.
