How to mate TR3160 with LFX
Hey all,
I recently LFX swapped my RX8. Normally you'd use the matching AY6 transmission, but after reading negative things about it, I opted to mate a Tremec TR3160 from a Gen 6 V6 (LGX) Camaro. I just want to put these notes out into the internet to hopefully be useful to someone. This forum has great tech and some existing LFX builds.
Fun facts

Here's how to wire power to the VSS:
You can run either the modified OEM clutch/flywheel parts or the Clutch Masters solution. I worked with CM to develop this custom flywheel. It's an LFX flywheel that has an added pilot bearing feature. I actually chose an E36 pilot bearing as homage to my old cars. hah. I also had the stack reduced a bit because after measuring the travel on three different TR3160 slave cylinder setups, the LFX parts are pushing the limits. This flywheel centers the pressure plate travel within the slave cylinder travel and seems to work well.
Once I clean up the Google sheet with this info and pictures I'll share it.
Also, a couple folks helped me with figuring this out. I'll shout em out if they agree to it! Not sure if they're on here.

Fun facts
- TR3160 from Gen 6 (2016+) 3.6l V6 (LGX) Camaro
- Requires a pilot bearing which the LFX's AY6 doesn't have so you can add one to an LFX flywheel or make custom flywheel
- Input shaft has 26t so requires LGX clutch disc
- Transmission mount is same as 10L60
- Is shorter than AY6 so needs longer driveshaft and shift selector rod
- The VSS sensor runs off 5V instead of 12V ignition as on AY6 so wire per diagram below
- The RPS sensor needs a different connector, but is the same electrically
- The VSS tone wheel has different number of teeth (12t) so you need to update that in ECU
- It has a different clutch slave cylinder fitting so you need different parts

I don't really have a thread, but I have some pics in an iCloud album I can perhaps share. I'll check that out in a bit.
Here's a link to a google doc with a bit more info and pics: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing
I used the Keisler Automation swap kit and Andrew helped me out by making some of the parts to my specs. He agreed that he'd sell these custom parts (drive shaft, shifter rod, crossmember with 10L60 mount) if anyone needs them.

First of all, thanks for posting all the info. Its giving me courage to install a TR3160 in my 2010 CTS.
I have 2 questions. First question is about the wiring of the VSS. Are you running that in parallel with the clutch pedal switch or do you not have a clutch pedal switch installed?
Second, what is the RPS? Is that the reverse light switch?

Yeah, RPS is just the reverse light switch.
