The TSX motors are not super common which is why most people do K20/K24 hybrids using CRV bottom ends. I wouldnt say its wildly different. They both have that wonderful 1.54:1 Rod Ratio. Im sure it will be super awesome at 10k rpm. |
While the potential for big boost numbers of the K or F swap is appealing to a (vocal) minority, there's a legion of folks who are ready to build ~200whp N/A cars with junkyard longblocks and bolt ons.

I just hope this becomes a thing. I want a goddamn k20 miata, lol.

Its basically the CRV motor with more compression and a K20Ax Head.

I wonder when they expect to have a kit done. My 1.6 has started the "death wobble" of the crankshaft pulley. |

Fun k24 fact for Miata folks. CRV k24a1 head flows as well as a type S head, and a bit better than a TSX head... Most 300+ whp K motors are CRV long blocks with high comp pistons, ported head, and a VTEC killer cam setup. Really a basic motor build, ready to give you 300whp and over 200wtq from 3500 rpm and up.
This may or may not be the plan down the road.... :) |
it will use hondata k-pro from what i have read.

Ah.. I made a thread inquiring about this awhile ago. Very cool to see this is still happening. I would love a k24 miata. Not too hard to get 300whp N/A out of them. If the kit comes in cheap enough this could be game changing for miatas.
Hell, strap a c38-91 rotrex to a stock k24 and enjoy 500whp+ without even cracking the block open. I wonder if there will be any weight savings? As cool as this is I wish a MZR swap kit would come out in a similar fashion. Can throw together a 2.5l really cheap, keep it in the mazda family, and they can make great power. |
I don't see any reason why MS wouldn't be possible. K pro is an awesome ecu in that it retains obd2, can output readiness codes and is pnp for Hondas. But other than that, it doesn't do anything magical to make the car run any differently than MS.

Well we gotta see how much the kit will cost guys, all and all this might be even less than 1k in a kit + the money for the motor/ecu. Definitely a lot less than the 15/20k for a v8 swap.
I'll break it down. How I'd do it and relative cost. flywheel -$500 - clutch masters adapter plate - $200 - subframe - custom - 500-1k maybe what they would charge. oil pan - + baffles - I'd likely do a custom baffle setup. harness - custom - few hundred at least header-custom-could do a s2000 with a k20 flange might be cheapest option intake manifold-custom $$$ - unless you could do the s2k with adapter plate engine-k24a1-$850 k24a2-$1300 Kpro - $1000 To make this affordable won't be easy but if you can weld or fab like myself only thing I'd need is the flywheel and maybe the adapter plate. Trans needs to be kept in mind the 5spd limit is about 190-200tq IIRC if you build a serious k you will need a 6speed. |

This definitely interests me. This kit becomes a reality, I'm in for one.
Will be following this thread. Something about N/A power turns me on, I respect the F/I, but it just doesn't tickle me the way N/A does. |

I think Emilio hit the nail on the head - Its all about 200+whp out of a stock junkyard motor. I paid $1000 for my TSX motor in my integra, put some cams in it, and it makes 247whp, 192wtq, revs to 8200rpm, with tons of low and mid range grunt. If it blows 5 years down the road, oh well, I will buy another. Engines are consumables, so big cheap power is a win, even if it cost some money to make the conversion. |

The F is a better engine, hands down. The only reason anybody thinks otherwise is because theyve been influenced by honda-tech group think. I remember when a large portion of the Honda community though the K series was trash, because when it came out it was quite lame, but also because it was different and because it couldn't be tuned with a trusty chipped OBD-I ECU. Ughhghgh |
FTB: a lone K hating crusader in a K loving world.
:giggle: Drove the TSX today just for kicks. Seriously: the torque curve this thing produces would actually be a ton of fun in a miata. I popped the hood yesterday and was sizing everything up. IMHO this isn't going to be a very easy swap. At least it looked like a PITA to me with all the bells and whistles bolted to it. (though I bet you guys will delete nearly all the accessories) |
This swap sounds pretty slick for the reasons the OP mentioned, mild turbo BP power with honda reliability and RPM, lighter weight than V8 (or BP & turbo) without the additional requirements of trans/driveshaft/rear diff upgrades. The same reasons the NA Mazda K series swap kit is a great idea, which should be cheaper and would be the same amount of work except you can use the original subframe if needed. But this honda option will give you the benefits & complications of 20 years of valve control advancement.
