Basically, the car running and fully drivable, just is open header right now. I've put a few miles on it, everything feels great.

Phase 2 is well underway - I have a V8 roadsters subframe installed, with the steering rack put back to its stock location. I had a custom CNC'd oil pump adapter made that works in conjunction with an RSX-S oil pump, so the rack/pump clearance is good. Now we are just modding the steel oil pan so everything clears nicely.

Once thats done, we just have to finish the exhaust and get it on the dyno.

After that, we will have a 100% functional K24 powered miata that retains factory steering geometry. How about that?

Very nice. Any idea what the time frame is looking like until the first kits would be available for sell? Just a ball park estimate.

End of this year, or beginning of 2014. I'm trying not to rush it. I just want to put a lot of miles on the setup before selling them though. Most of the major components are already ready to go, such as adapter plates, flywheel, wiring harness, etc.

First 5 will probably be a group buy to get it rolling, as I will have to buy 5 adapter plates and subframes at a time for this to make any sense.

any new pictures?

hats off to you guys for seeing this through and making the effort to modify the oiling components to keep the factory rack location.

stage 3 = cartel killers,hood exit header,kinsler itb,14.0:1 + E85 !!!!

Yes, there are some on k20a.org, and I have a few more in my flickr account I need to link over. Once we finish modding the pan I will have way better pictures that will show the final design.

Ha, yes, I'm sure this will eventually be done. Nice thing about ITBs is that they will clear the hood no problem, which is always the issue when running ITBs in a K powered FWD Honda. K Tuned is prototyping some ITBs that perhaps we will try.

But your mod combo you listed is an easy recipe for a 320 whp 220+ tq N/A K24 setup. Pretty easy these days with off the shelf parts. All in good time.... I want to find someone with a $10K+ budget for a wild road race motor....

Well I bought a lottery ticket last night, so there's a chance.

I know you don't want to give pricing but I'm going to ask anyways. What do you think the ballpark cost would be for the swap components? I saw you mention it'd be similar in cost to a k-series swap in an EG but I'm not familiar with that cost.

I'm about to turbo my 93 but this swap is a lot closer to what I would like in the car.

I would imagine between 5k-7k depending on how cheap you get the motor. He said he is using V8roadsters subframe, thats a god $1500+ right there

That's the ballpark I'm thinking. I was guessing $2500-$3000 for subframe, adaptor plate, flywheel, and oil pan but wanted to make sure I wasn't in fantasy land.

Thats probably a realistic estimate, but please don't hold me to that.

Keep in mind, in addition you will need:
-header
-mounts
-wiring conversion harness
-some sort of intake manifold solution (S2K adapter plate will be available)
-custom oil pump setup
-some other random little stuff as with any swap

If you just buy CNC pieces and are willing to fab the rest yourself, it can be done pretty cheaply. But most people (including me) don't have the time or skills and would rather go with tried and true off-the-shelf parts.

Yes, I realize a turbo kit will still be cheaper. Its all about what your reliability and power goals are, and what the car will be used for.

Turbo kits are cheap until you try to keep them running on track. I'm the type that likes to do every lap of every session and the more I read, the more it sounds like a turbo won't be the best choice for me.

I'm sure you've had a ton of offers but if you need a 90-97 for mock up or measurements, let me know. I don't use my car between October and April and I live in Gurnee.

Yeah, k series motors are super reliable on track, especially in stock form.

I appreciate the offer, I won't be at that stage for a while, but ideally I'd like to find a customer with an NA that would like to test it out with my help of course. Fitment should be pretty much the same, the only real difference is going to be the fuel setup (NA is a return system, NB is returnless).

You would just run a k-tuned rail with a reg/return setup like swapping into an EG correct?

Yes. Except if you use an S2000 manifold and injectors, you'll need an S2000 rail and not a K tuned one. We used the stock S2000 rail. I just removed the regulator, tapped the hole to 1/8" NPT, and put a fitting in. Works great.

If I do go this route down then road, I would be using Hayward long runner itbs

UPDATE with pictures of the progress on the oil pan and pump pickup:
K24 Miata swap... finally a reality - Page 10 - K20A.org .:. The K Series Source . Honda / Acura K20a k24a Engine Forum

Its coming along very nicely, I will post more pics when the pan is all welded back up. Rack clearance is snug, but it will definitely work in the stock location. There will be nothing not to like about this swap.

Leafy 10-10-2013 01:45 PM

How confident are we that oil pump will prime with that pickup tube?
