Project 200whp N/A
We'll run ITB's on this project so moot for the purposes of this thread.

If anyone is interested in getting their header tested contact me first and ship it here. If someone has a stahl and wants to get tested. I would be happy to.the only header I am going to pay to get here is the Maruha VP. It is the only OTS header I think might actually make significantly more power than the Racing Beat.
Id personally like to see a long-tube 4-1 tested back to back. Its unfortunate that space is so limited.
IIRC Keith had some good gains with his bundle-of-snakes on the Targa miata.

We built a few long tube "bundle of snakes" stepped headers, very carefully engineered. Gains were minimal over the RB at 140whp N/A to 350whp supercharged. Over the last 8 years of messing with the BP, we consistently find the largest gains on the intake side.
On a 130~170whp N/A BP engine..
A well designed cold air intake on a stock NB1 will find more power that a switching from a stock USDM 4:1 to any header.
A good intake manifold over the USDM units will also trump any header swap.
Hopefully this semi-troll post incites someone with data out there to post tests results from a Boig, Stahl, Prather or other one-off against the RB. If it exists, I want one for this engine project

For what its worth I had Maxim Works 4-2-1 in my NA Mazdaspeed, last Tuckin99 car had 4-1 Fujitsubo manifold that gave much more punch on midrange. Someone said in the internet that Fujitsubo is one of those few manifolds that actually give more power. Dont know for real, but my buttdyno™ confirmed it.

Emillio, Miataroadster Bill just got a murahaha, might want to see if he wants to pull it out. Those things are works of freaking art, glorious welding, closest thing to a decent collector I've seen from an off the shelf header, and it has double slip connectors.

Good info, thanks for sharing!
Chasing up more details on this. Will some headers work better on stock head/cams and others work better on a heavily worked head with bigger cams or is there one header to rule them all?
I think he summed it up well. An off the self unit like RB provides a small bump in power, with only minimal gains left to be squeezed out of the exhaust with snaky custom headers.
This all makes sense to me. On a 1.6 track car, the power was decent, but a very noticeable jump occurred when we ditched the AFM with a Megasquirt, even with the base map. Finally dyno'd at 115, which is supposedly quite healthy indeed.

There is a reason I post mainly here and on trackhq. The little bit of work required to be a member here does an pretty good job of keeping trolls and lazy, inconsiderate newbs at bay.
