I'm in the market for some stronger rods and the price is very tempting.

Yay or nay?

Isn't the 22mm pin size larger than stock?

Look up a thread by Leatherface24 he got some of those ebay rods... I don't know what he did with them but there was a lot of data in the posts.

I read through leatherfaces thread and ended up buying the crankshaft depot rods instead. I believe these are the same ones he purchased, had the correct small end specs, and were only a dollar more delivered.

Hopefully they will work out for me.

As of right now, the stock 99 pistons. I don't plan on changing displacement but may go with some 94-97 slugs. I believe they will drop compression from 9.5:1 to 9:1? If I can find a cheap set I may go that route?

I believe the 94 motors have 8.8:1. The 95-97 have 9.0:1. Then the 99-00 have 9.5:1. I also recalled reading somewhere that the automatics have lower comp ratio than the manuals. I believe all the comps ratios are manual.

Comp ratio in all 1.8s is the same regardless of transmission. The 1.6 has a lower compression motor for the autos.

I was just reading that the autos had a lower compression ratio, might just be the 1.6 but the 1.8 has seen some compression changes..

1.6 Auto: 9.0:1
1.6 5spd: 9.4:1

1.8 99-00: 9.5:1
1.8 2001+: 10:1

There's a low comppression 94 piston iirc. Wasn't published but its know lore that was lowest compression year.

Rods showed up today. They are CAT's, look very nice, and according to the spec sheet the 4 are all within a gram of each other.

Unfortunately I won't know if they're any good for a while....

I am making 297whp out of a 1.6L right now with ebay rods spinning to 8k RPM. I bought them from a different vendor, they were cheaper than what you have listed there but they were cat power too so my bet is they are the same. I abuse my car too, it's been taken to two hillclimbs now, about 5 track days and a few nights at the drag strip.

Glad to hear these are a fairly solid rod, I have a set in my build (297/278 FWHP) albeit bought from a European ebay vendor and for considerable more than you guys get them for ($280)

Good to hear they are holding up! I'm shooting for January to have the engine assembled and ready to install.
