As was discovered by the owner of this VW SuperBeetle during the running of the 2012 Sears Pointless:
(For those not familiar with air-cooled VW engines, it is customary for the entire crank pulley to be attached to the crankshaft, not just the central portion of it.)

I don't understand why you have to get all butthurt when one forum gives you the answer, and then negatively compare them to another forum which does the same thing.
If you truly built your car such that you don't have space for a harmonic damper, then installing an underdrive pulley will ensure that you will have to truly build your car again.
