Whats up with all the small craters? Are you boiling and bursting the weld pool?
|
where, what?
You talking about my stops? I have a bad habit of just letting my foot off real fast instead of slowly. |
You can see it the worst in the last picture. There's all the dark spots. Its what my welds used to look like before I discovered that you dont want the torch pointed straight into the part. Looks like small eruptions.
|
Try 308 you might like it better. Your running 100% Argon, right?
+1 on the Eastwood, but this sounds like a better machine. |
308 filler? Yes, pure argon.
I was welding a 304 flange to 316 pipe with 316 filler. I'm sure there was impurities too. The pictures i posted in the build thread are a bit better. Seriously, when welding on the 304 or 316 the results were completely different. Easy to see how the color of the weld changes. I think i said that in the custom fab thread. |
I ordered a stainless flange from Wittyworks and he said he liked 308.

Yeah I use 308 for all my stainless needs. 304 to mild? 308. 304 to 321? 308. 304 to 409? 308. 321 to 409? 308. My exhaust hangers may or maynot be 321 because I may or maynot have gotten just under 4 feet for 5 dollars.

What do you know about 347 or Hastelloy W tig wire?

I didn't want to start another thread but I just picked up PowerPro 256 and torch cooler. I'm looking forward to getting some projects started. Unfortunately, I needed some service and it had to go back for repair. So far service seems good.
I need to get a helmet and some gas. How much do you guys pay for gas? The tanks seem to go for a lot. |
Apparently their service is backed up for at least a month. Nothing worse than hearing we just got it on Monday, you know the Monday 10 days ago, and haven't looked at it yet.
|
That sucks... I'd just ask them to send you a new one. I mean, DOA usually means they send a new one.
|
To your first questions, I paid $220 for my 80cf gas tank, and its been $38/fill since then. Its a good size, light enough you could bribe your mum to take it to get it filled while you're busy and doesnt take up much space, and lasts a good while. And I OWN the tank. A lot of people rent or lease them, my tank is mine. And never let them do a swap deal with you if you own the tank, you'll often end up with a tank stamped with their name or one thats close to needing a re-test.
Did you pickout a helmet yet? This is the one I went with Viking Black 3350 Welding Helmet. Really light, good breathing room, massive viewing area, never been flashed with it. |
Yeah it sucks, I'll post up here to keep a record of their customer service.
Thanks for the pricing, I have always had experience with rentals. I think I'm going to get a huge tank so I can learn without getting a refill. I haven't picked up a helmet yet, I'm waiting until I get the welder back. |
Erat,
Are you still liking the Everlast? Any problems or realizations after owning it longer? I was going to get one, but decided against it and bought a Miata instead :D Now I am in the market for a TIG again and considering one again... May just go with a used Lincoln or Miller though. |
Well if it helps you decide, it has been almost 2 months since my welder went back to everlast for service. I have heard "we will get in touch with you early next week" 3 times. I wouldn't be too happy if I made my living off this machine.
|
Yeah I had an order placed with them, but then I cancelled it when it took too long to ship out... hearing that, now I think I will avoid them and just go Lincoln or Miller now.
|
I love it.
It's loads better than the dinosaur Miller i'm forced to use at work. Once you figure out how to use it. I would never get anything that isn't multi-process. Having the plasma cutter is an awesome tool. The torch is cheap though. I'm really not liking that. But it's so minimal it's not even really worth mentioning. |

buying local has a ton of advantages that are worth paying a few $ for. |
I wasn't really considering a plasma cutter, but now I am.
I was hoping to try and find a good Black Friday deal or something. |
