Default My new clutch

About 800 miles later. Look hard and you'll see an assortment of clutch disk springs trapped under the pp springs. No wonder I couldn't shift gears. This was a Spec disk with new copper ceramic pads installed (they're still there) after the kevlar wore out in just 5k miles. Looks like the rivets that hold the sprung center to the friction outer pulled through. I've had rotten luck with Spec.

Very bad! I hope that spec warranties the clutch, and doesn't blame the failure on abuse.

Good luck.

I tried contacting them via voicemail and email when the kevlar pads wore out without any luck, so I gave up. This is the second time this spec disk has failed me- I've learned my lesson now.

Ok, I think we should boycott Spec here.

I have a SPEC story too. I used a sprung 4 puck much like the one you have. Its not that the clutch springs came apart, but the copper pads...they basically just broke off and the clutch would slip terribly when I would go for anything over 15psi. SPEC is junk.

Yeah, I don't have ANY confidence in them. They did sponsor a car I raced and that clutch worked fine- but we're talking a hundred horsepower or so on a road course. This is different.

I'm tempted to just get an ACT disk since I've got an ACT pp. I did notice that there looks to be a single 6 puck hipo sprung disk that's being sold by about ten different manufacturers. Clutchnet sells it for $170, yet on ebay you can get what looks to be the exact same thing in a kit with everything for the same price.

i ended up with an act this time around again. I was going to give RPS a shot but they discontinued the miata clutch. I had an act in my eclipse and loved it but some miata people complained about theirs squealing. However nobody complained about them failing so i went with them again, it's been fine for the couple hundred miles i have on it. I like it a lot

I can't find where they list torque limits on the site.

I was about a week away from ordering a SPEC Stage II, now I'm back to searching, it seems.

His isn't a stage II, the stage II is a full disk, not a puck clutch.

Isn't the ACT street disk the just an OEM disk?
