Default 1.6 turbo noob questions

Allright well i just joined here, and i currently own a 96 chevy s10. Ive been very interested in miatas for the last year or so, and test drove a 1992 1.6 completely stock last summer. Ive got a few questions. How quick are 1.6l's with the greddy TD04 turbo kit once you have the supporting mods for it? Because i know that in stock form they are pretty slow, but they handle great. So how much hp and ft lbs of torque do they put out with the greddy kit, and with the kit, what cars can they take from a roll and dig. And my last question, is 5 grand about the right price for a 91, 5 speed with a clean title, 161k miles, with a greddy tdo4 turbo kit put on 2 and a half months ago, and its a convertable, tein coilovers, 2.5 inch full cat back exhaust with a high flow cat . Whats yur thoughts? Thanks for all the help!

But the question is. is it gunna be something thats gunna put a smile on my face when i drive it? Cause ive driven srt4's and wrx's and loved them to death, and i figured something that weighs less, and is gunna make right about the same numbers as both the wrx and srt4 would be insane. am i right?

rwd

I've tracked with a bunch of srt-4's, and they are **** slow in comparison to a 96whp miata. WRX's are another class of car...but i think a turbo miata with decent suspension would be much, much more fun. I drove a 1.6 that made 154whp, and I had the giggles. ****, even my sister's msm was fun when it was stock.

a blown 2500lb NB miata on tein's with RA-1's hold's the street car lap record at Texas Motorsport Ranch (yes, even including times posted by instructors in gt3's and ferraris), and a 1:26 at Hallett (which is insanely fast...faster than any street z06 has ever posted there).

I've never driven an insane one, but apparently these cars are nuts.

the 1:2 lap:
http://video.google.com/url?docid=-2...vew3CE1nraJANg
that car has also turned a 1:26
It seems that about 250whp and good suspension makes these cars world class performers, with proper tuning of course.

it would take a bit more than a base greddy kit, but yes. Turboed miata is a very general term on this forum

I'd say certainly WRX's and it depends on the level of SRT-4 but if he's doing much more than driving in a strait line then yes.

There are guys on here taking down much more impressive things than the likes of those. But, it depends on the kind of money you have to spend.

Whatever setup you're going to go with, be it Greddy, T25, T3, FM, Begi, OBX, EDT, DIY, etc... It's best to have a goal. What do you want this car to do? If your goal is to beat stock WRX's and SRT4's, do the math. A WRX: 3100lbs/185whp. An SRT4: 2900lbs/210whp. Both cars run 0-60 in high 5sec's and 1/4mile low 14's.

A 90-93 Miata w/PSandAC +turbo weighs about 2200lbs... with 200whp, the Miata will crush the WRX after the 60ft mark, and easily handle an SRT4, running a low 5sec 0-60 and high 13sec 1/4 mile.

About 10-12psi is needed to get you to 200whp.

Fill out your profile with your location, maybe there is somebody near you who will take you for a ride. To get a good idea of the used Miata Turbo market, see the classifieds lower on the main forum page or go to the Miata.net forum classifieds here: http://www.miata.net/cgi-bin/isc/cla...3c1a7778e0e2bd

There are always a few turbo'd cars for sale. Assuming that Miata you posted above is in awesome shape, it's worth about $2500-$3000 stock. If you count the aftermarket stuff at roughly full price, $1200 the turbo, $300 for the exhaust, and $400 Teins... In the end it's worth what you'll pay for it. Do your homework and be patient. $1000 will go a long way with Miatas. In fact, next week it will get you a full standalone w/wbo2 and MAF delete.

there's a great 1.6 bell s3 for sale in houston. I'd buy that car if I were in the market for a car.
