Default 6 speed shifter weird problem (pics)

I just bought a 6 speed today. Is the shifter not threaded? There's epoxy all over it, but no threads.

Edit: shoot, wrong section.

So, it looks to me like they just stuck something in the boot to keep crud from getting into the trans. Is there actually a whole shifter there?

Yes, because it shifts through all the gears.

Is there something threaded that goes over that stump piece? I've never seen a 6 speed shifter before.

You are missing half the shifter. Stock shifters are two pieces; an inner and outer shaft separated by a temperature/vibration isolating material. They are not intended to be separated.

Me thinks you be in need of a new shifter.
