Default Substituting VICS solenoid

I have an NB1 intake manifold on my NB2, and I don't have VICS operational. The VICS solenoid is long gone. Is there any reason why I couldn't use the VTCS solenoid as a VICS solenoid? They're both just switching open the connection vacuum to pull on the actuator, nothing special I'm thinking.

Couldn't I just use any normally closed solenoid anyway?

Checked the part numbers, they're the same.

Same part number, same part. Go for it.

Follow up - You cannot use a VTCS actuator on a VICS manifold. The mounting is exactly the same, the vacuum line size is the same. However the actuator length is about 2cm too long. Only reason why I tried fitting a VTCS actuator to a VICS manifold was because my VICS actuator had a broken vacuum port.

How can the part number be the same if the part is 2cm longer?

What's the part number?

my listing for a 99 VICS actuator shows number BP5A-20-170

A quick google (not sure how reliable the site is for part numbers) shows the actuator for the NB8B (i just arbitrarily clicked 2003 model) as part number: BP6F-20-170

Are you referring to the solenoid switch, or the dash pot actuator?

actually, good point.

I assumed Actuator, since OP mentioned the actuator length was too long.

But then the first post says solenoid.

You can in fact use a VCTS actuator too, you just need a small adapter bracket. I prefer it actually, since it’s all metal.

True, following Curleys advice on this, I did just this a few weeks ago.

Great minds think alike. Making one myself as well! Have an order for some set screws for the securing nub on the intake manifold. Have to clean it up and paint it, but looks like it should work.

I might still have a bunch of material left to make a few more. Wonder if there's interest from other VICS manifold owners for some adapter brackets if they feel like upgrading?
