I recently replaced my FM valve with one of these:

And I'm actually very happy with it! I took it apart and removed one of the springs to loosen it up. Now it leaks like a sieve at idle, which is fine since I'm running sans-AFM. (others could recirc.) I just lathed an adaptor to stick a filter on the exhaust so it can suck in all the air it wants. A lot of 'em include the recirc pipe at no cost.

No problems at all so far.

I had an authentic HKS SSQV on my 240sx and the sound was.....meh. Some people like it and some people hate it. I liked it at first (initially enamerd with having a bov) but I guess it gets old.

With the HKS, the original 'fin' is cool at first, but a bit loud. I installed the purple fin and the sound is more stealthy.

Just PSSHHH. easy to adjust, easy to plumb. You can get flange adapters here and there.

FWIW, the DSM valve VTA sounds pretty cool, nothing showy, but a nice squeak and whoosh.

That is, if you care about ricey stuff like that....

I can't stand HKS valve, it's REALLY obnoxious.

If you are venting then a Tial is the only way to go. Let me know if I can help you out at all.
The HKS is so ******* annoying. I think every 18 year old kid in my area has one on their STI.

I VTA'd my Bosch with a Lowes check valve for about 3 months. With the .48/.49 DSM T25, even at high boost, there wasn't enough air to make it flutter or sound cool. Just a really loud "pssstttt" like when you disconnect an air hose from a compressor. When I "upgraded" to the .80/.64 Nissan T25, it fluttered like crazy even at moderate boost, sounded good, and wasn't too loud. But after a month or so, the noise got old and I got tired of every dork in a big-winged Sunfire giving me "the eye". So I recirced and found new joy in life. All of my driveability problems went away, no more bucking... and my mileage went up from about 18 to 22-23. My **** feels a little smaller though.

just get the recirculation kit for the hks if you dont like the sound.

I got it way back when because it worked with my MAF before I ended up finding a used link

I've used Greddy Type S, knock off Type S, RFL, knock-off RFL and a DSM.

DSM was by far the best mechanically. Held boost great, sounds good dumped to atmosphere and is super responsive, plus it was the cheapest of all.

Tial and **** is good quality too but you cant beat the DSM as far as bang for your buck.

Since you're here Pat.......do you have a spring recommendation for me? The Vr6 pulls about 20" of vacuum at idle. I will be running 10-22 psi. I have a green spring and a red spring sitting here I can choose from.
