Default In case anyone cares about emotorsusa.com china GT2870

Claimed Turbo specs:

Ideal for smaller displacement engines making up to 420hp
Compressor Wheel
0.60 A/R Cold Side
Ind: 54.00 mm
Exd: 70 mm
Trim: 60
Turbiner Wheel
.64 A/R
Garrett 4 Bolt T25 Flange
Ind: 52.90 mm
Exd: 45.47 mm

Rough estimate actual turbo specs measured with crappy plastic caliper:

Compressor
Ind53.1mm
Exd 69.7mm

exhaust
Ind 51.7mm
Exd 45.7mm

I have no idea what this means, but I guess it means it is close to a 2870 as claimed. Good Times!

I've been eyeballing that turbo on ebay.
I'm running roughly the same turbo you are now (journal 2554).
Curious to hear how this turbo compares. Please keeps us posted!

I just picked up this turbo as well. is yours the ball bearing or journal bearing version?

and if it is a journal bearing one did it come out of the box with shaft play?

I wrote back to the seller about my disappointment with the shaft play in mine and they responded that since it is journal bearing it comes new with some shaft play.

cheap turbo delivered already broken?

there's always a little shaft play on the wheel, but the shaft should not be able to move in and out at all...

Mine came with a little radial shaft play (journal bearing) You have to press pretty firmly to get it to move. It made sense that the play will subside when oil fills the turbo. I'm not sure of the fluid properties of oil, but I'm sure it's not very compressable. Which would mean that when it fills the air voids under pressure it will act like a viscous solid.

It had NO in/out shaft play. EmotorsUSA has a 1yr (full relacement) warranty, which is better than most china turbo manufacturers. Of course, if ir fails and nukes your motor then :(

Good luck getting a warranty claim paid, even with the advertised warranty.

Actually, I think levnubin had to use it, and they sent him a new one. I may be mistaken, so you may want to ask him directly.

As I understand it, axial play means in-out, radial play means side-side.

Axial is bad, but a tiny bit on a unit with 0 oil does make sense. A bit of radial play is OK and more or less normal.

You are correct. I have been mis-using the axial term. Axial=in/out and radial = side to side.

I have zero axial play and slight radial play. I will edit my posts to minimize confusion

I'm gonna be running the 2554 knockoff they carry, sitting in my storage room as we speak... Just need to finish transferring money so I can pay Brainy-ballz for a MS.

You are correct, after two weeks the first one developed a horrid bearing noise. They replaced it no questions asked.

incidentally, I love my 2876. so if it is a tiny step down from that, it should be a baller setup.

I'd like to know as well. Mine is still sitting on that same paper plate on the dining room table.

keep in mind this is a real deal garrett 2876 and is ball bearing, so i bet both of those are worth some improvements over the chinacharger.... oh and the VVT is working to improve things as well...

4th gear, 2001 with VVT enabled and run by the factory ECU (sorta):
