I know this is an old thread but since it got bumped...I want to throw my .02 in. The idea for most of us is to improve the car. There seem to be alot of part haters these days, spoolin2bars came up with the part hater conversation. For the guys that are a little more experienced we should help make a list of the steps you can take to a better handling car. If someone asks are these good or what would you get for x dollars instead of always turning it into which is better lets turn it into what can you spend? Even Racelands are better than blown stock shocks.

i can't tell you how many people i smoked with agx's, many of them on flex. they're no motons but they're better than stock with the right supporting parts. anyway's, back on topic, i love how everyone jumps on the heaven sent coilovers when someone asks about a cheap coilover. did anyone bother asking what he plans on doing with his car. cuz unless your a poseur there is absolutely no need to spend 1k+ on coilovers that will never see the track,r compunds, or big power mods. also, you gotta buy what you can afford. not everyone has $2,000 to spend on shocks. would someone be better served by some decent quiality shocks that get you on track safely for seat time. or would they be better off spending $2k in a year after they saved up the money and have zero seat time or ability to even adjust or know what's needed from their expensive susp. system. alot of the guys i see bitching about kyb and cheap shocks couldn't even outdrive those, let alone put expensive coilovers to use. what's best to you, may be **** to someone else whether they cost less or 5x more.

If someone is angry with someone because of they're damper choice, they need to reevaluate their lives, and most likely end it. Now, I see it as my civic duty, as a father to all of you, to enlighten people that buying **** like BC, Stance, or cracker-jack **** for a price over the Bilstein or Koni options is a mistake. I had a set of Spax coilovers that I scored on the cheap and they were so horrible the car was incredibly unpredictable on the street.

this thread is redundantly useless. i just want to be able to tuck my tires without cutting springs and without spending >700-800 bucks.
i drive on the streets so i'm not really worried about how track worthy they are. as long as they don't ride significantly worse than stock shocks, i'm good.

everbody is throwing in their random 2 cents, so I'll add mine. If I was putting something together on a budget, I'd revalve to the approprate spring rates a set of Bilstiens. Interesting they aren't getting a ton of respect here. They are a great shock, can be cheaply rebuilt, and have easlily repeatable, easily manipulatable damping curves. For several other platforms, these are the hot ticket with a set of coil sleeves.
One other thing that people aren't focuing on is the springs these taiwan made coilovers use. They list a spring rate, but I am willing to bet money that they either aren't the same side to side, or they don't compress linearly. I had issues with Tein springs like this a couple years ago. I've heard their quality has gotten better, but the spring is as important as the damper. Heck, you can't even buy a set of 4 KW, or hyper coil springs for the price of these whole kits. The price difference isn't all in profit margin...

Bad coilovers suck. I know from experience. Now I have FCM Bilsteins, and while not a budget setup, they truly are magical in relation to the crap I've had in the past.
Guys, event if you only DD your cars, if you are truly committed to performance, cheaping out on the most important performance item on your car is doing you an injustice. Think about this. There is a reason this stuff is cheap.

exactly my point: first you say even if you only daily drive, then you say if your truly commited to performance. alot of these guys aren't interested in performance or "truly commited" at all. they want a look, and they want the car to ride okay. other than that they could care less. and to suggest that they have to get $3,000 coilovers is retarded. yes quality, yes performance, yes reliability. i understand and want all those things, but not everyone wants what i want. alot of these guys won't have their car much over a year anyways to even run into reliablity problems. like i said before, most of the time more questions need to be asked before a good suggestion can be made.

I've spent about 300$ on my suspension, and that's more than enough.
Used r-package bilsteins and FM springs. That will get a car low (about 12") if you want, and have quality shocks/springs.
When I have the money, I can get a revalve/adjustable setup and coilovers as a step up with reusing my shocks.
Good doesn't need to be expensive. I don't think anyone here is ripping on ricers for not having gold plated shocks, but for being ricers. Look at the people here spending 100-150$ more on Tien setups than Racelands. Your argument doesn't have merit.
And hell, if they just want "a look," they're ricers and deserve the abuse. The look is there because fast cars are low. If a car isn't low for the express reason of going fast... posers should be called out.
