Remove the bulb, cover the bulb, or re-route power from the bulb.

I love the fact that on our cars half the bulbs in the cluster are removable. If it bothers you, remove it

Don't hassle with removing the bulb, just plug the connector out of your immobilizer unit under the dash, near the steering wheel...

If he does that, he will be forever haunted by the knowledge that a crippled, useless bulb mocks him each and every day from the dark shadows behind the instrument panel.

Don't do that. On the 01+, the immobilizer module also inhibits the starter if the correct key is not there. Unplugging the module means no starter.

O.K. I was thinking 99-00 and 01+ would be the same immobilizer units...
So O.P. don't do what I said... I had the dumb.

I expect that you will now create a small shrine in the corner of the garage to honor the legacy of bulb.

But what about all the shrines for all the empty bulb-holder-shaped spaces on the back of the 01 gauge cluster?

A certain monk was reported to be unwilling to leave his terminal. For two days he had gone without food or sleep.

When the Java master investigated, he found the monk visibly shaken. On screen was the following code, which at that moment was running under the debugger:
while (true) {
/* do nothing */
}
“I have asserted that the loop must execute while truth itself is true,” said the monk. “Yet if I hit the Interrupt key, the loop will terminate. The implication is that, in that precise moment, truth will no longer be true. How can any of us dare to disturb the program? We might bring chaos upon the world!”

The Java master reached down and pulled the plug out of the wall. The screen went black.

“Now the loop can never be interrupted,” said the master.

The monk’s mind was eased.
