Default FM/Spal fan wiring question

Hey guys got a stupid question for anyone that's installed the FM fan kit or any spal fans. noticed the pigtail that plugs into the fans has a ring terminal on it but FM's instructions say to tap the black wire in the spal fans to the black wire on the OEM harness. Doesnt make sense to cut the ring terminal off to do this and I'm almost certain that ring terminal is for me to ground the fans to chassis. Anyone able to confirm? Pic below

I chopped the ring terminal off and connected wire to wire for everything. No fires yet

Black wire on the spal fans is ground. You can connect it to a chassis ground nearby (hence the ring terminal) or to the oem harness. A nearby chassis ground might actually be preferred depending on how much power they draw.

Thanks. Figured either would work but didn't want to delve to far off the instructions and just wired them to the OEM harness.

When I spoke to FM they recommended just connecting wire to wire, so that's good enough for me. Either should work
