Wanna know the difference between BEGi and FM?

I don't see threads like this created every month about FM. Or people unanimously saying "We told you so".

About a grand and a half? Seriously, I could buy a second Garrett with the money I saved and still come out ahead.

Customer service is worth something, but I don't think it's quite worth that.

I think the prices are quite a bit closer than that, if we must be fair.

As a matter of fact... the FM kit is cheaper.

Yeah, but I got a BEGI-S with no FMU, so it came out to about $2k. So not a grand and a half, but still a grand.

I'm not sure what kind of deal you received, but if you wanted to compare apples to apples regarding kits and their completeness, if you wanted the stainless downpipe, a wideband bung, the 2560 turbo, the stainless coolant lines and an intercooler, the prices are damn near identical. FM has their "divided" downpipe outlet, something you pay even more from BEGi. This is all assuming you are comparing the Voodoo II system from FM and the S system you received from Bell.

Granted you get the stainless coolant lines with BEGi, and small headaches like this...

I went with a CXRacing intercooler, and mild DP. Like I said, I paid right around $2k plus shipping, and maybe a hundred or so extra for SS lines.

Granted this is no small headache... but at the time, the extra thousand dollars was very appealing (and needed for things like Megasquirt, injectors, etc).

I'm not saying FM is terrible by any means, and at this point if I could do it all again I would strongly consider going with them, but they don't offer a kit for ~$2k with a Garrett. You can actually get it all even cheaper from BEGi if you go with a china charger, and have a "complete" kit for less than a grand and a half.

That's really just because FM doesn't do non-intercooled setups, though.

The only point i'm making is that that extra grand doesn't JUST get you customer service. It gets you a more capable kit, even barring the fitment and customer service crap.

Call FM and ask them to take stuff off a kit and include only the comparable items to what you got at begi.
They actually do that

FWIW FM's plain jane Voodoo kit is non-intercooled. It's a crossover pipe setup like the BEGi-S. The Voodoo II is intercooled.

FM also includes many things in their price that BEGi charges extra for (stainless downpipe, oil pan tap, boost gauge, gauge mount, etc.) and will remove/reduce the cost if you don't need them. So it all ends up being about the same if you matched the kits option for option.

As soon as I saw that latest response from her, that would have been it dealing with her. Time to call and only deal with Corky, use your lunch breaks, regular breaks, whatever it takes. This has moved to bs territory and it's a tactic that seems to be used there regularly, trying to place blame on the buyer/installer/etc. I have a few of my own stories to share that go just like this story has gone, it's why I won't do business with them nor will I ever recommend them again.

IMO, you paid for new parts and you have no responsibility for the failure so it needs to be fixed correctly, which is a CHRA replacement at the very least.

Doesnt FM have a kit that is literally just a manifold and a downpipe (might have an intercooler)? Its like the DIY kit or something. No turbo, no management, nothing.

Like I said, I'm not saying the FM kit is a bad idea, or that the begi kit is a gift from the turbo miata gods based on price point, but at the time my budget didnt' call for the FM kit. I could have waited another year and gone with FM, but there are some success stories with BEGi out there as well.

Right up until a couple weeks ago, mine was one of those success stories. BEGi has been fantastic to work with so far. You just have to order everything 3 months before you want it--but living in Wisconsin with Wisconsin winters, that wasn't an issue.

But this situation is a little more than "kind of" a deal breaker depending on its resolution.

Yes. You can pay $750 plus shipping for the hot side bits only (mani and DP).

Every piece of the FM kits, you can buy separately. Their DIY manifold/downpipe kit is pretty affordable.

This thread is now an FM advertisement.

I really do hope the resolution is quick and they do the right thing. At this point just the fact that it is taking so long should net you an another apology from them. They are adding insult to injury.
