GB for pads/rotors and 1.8 upgrades!

So uh.. wishing I hadn't spent what I did to do my conversion... because this GB just came along over on CR.net

Great option for those with 1.6L brakes... you have no excuse keeping them now.

Atlanta93LE 05-08-2007 09:01 PM

Whoa...definitely going to be giving them a call tomorrow. Question is...hps, hp, or blue?

Braineack 05-08-2007 09:07 PM

I used to get such a good deal with Hawk...so pissed I dont have my discount still.

neogenesis2004 05-08-2007 09:13 PM

I think imma call them tomorrow, what pads should I get?

Braineack 05-08-2007 09:15 PM

i hated the hps on the street...

i love my hp+s but they are loud as shit (but i have no backing plates, clips, springs, or anti-squel glue)

I need blues soon I'm going to the track in a month.

Ben 05-09-2007 09:49 AM

I went ahead and jumped on this. :bigtu:
I was concerned that the cost of shipping rotors would eat up any savings on the brackets, but it didn't end up being that bad.
Probably saved $40 over buying the pads on ebay, rotors at NAPA, and sourcing brackets.

Atlanta93LE 05-09-2007 09:50 AM

How much was it total, and what pads did you go with, if you don't mind my asking?

Ben 05-09-2007 09:56 AM

Went with HPS, as my car is mostly for the street. They're well mannered yet fairly grippy, easy on the rotors, quiet, and not dusty. And they will sruvive just fine the 2x per year I put the car on the track.

I don't think you'd want the HP+ for daily driving with your BBS wheels. If you're looking for street pads, go with the HPS. If you want track pads, go with the Blues.

Total was 140 for pads/rotors + 25 brackets + 25 shipping to the commercial address.
If you want, you can add your order to mine and split shipping.

I want everyones opinion, I got the 1.6 hps currently on front, how much better will the hp+ with the 1.8 feel, anyone have experience with this?

Braineack 05-09-2007 10:05 AM

i went from 1.6 HPS to 1.8 HP+, the difference was like trying to stop a Mac truck vs. a go-kart.

two things you have to deal with: noise levels and dust.

neogenesis2004 05-09-2007 10:20 AM

I just remembered that I have some axis ultimates that I bought like ages ago that I never put on. So I just placed an order for just the brackets. I'll pick up some rotors from whoever has them cheapest around here once the brackets come in.

Are those salvage caliper brackets or something they have fabricated? $25 seems like a real bargain!

neogenesis2004 05-09-2007 12:30 PM

salvage

samnavy 05-10-2007 02:00 PM

I just ordered HPS/rotors front and rear, plus the uprgrade brackets. Total as listed $163 + about $20 for shipping. Should be here early next week. There just aren't any good salvage yards near here or I would have done this a long time ago.

Ben 05-10-2007 07:37 PM

Maybe. But I haven't been able to find just the caliper brackets for a good price, and I've been looking for a LONG time. I even had a WTB ad on m.net for 5-6 months.

hustler 05-10-2007 07:51 PM

is this the fucked up 1.8 brake convo where you have to turn the 1.6 caliper upside down? I'd buy this shit, but I'm thinking I'll be better off with 1.8 calipers since I'm going to push the 1.8 brakes to their limits.

Ben 05-10-2007 07:52 PM

There is no difference between calipers NA1.6 & NA1.8
