Are the HPS close to the Axxis Ultimates? I know I am going to need new rotors this time around and will need new pads before too long and might jump on this just to save some $$ if the HPS are close enough.

^You might get some good responses here... but for more threads on brake pads than you can read in a day, go to m.net in the "suspension, handling, brakes" forum. I did a quick search, and the overwhelming opinion is that the HPS pads are awesome for the street and will perform well at the occasional trackday. Get the HP+'s for DD duty plus full-time weekend autocross warrior, and the BLUE's for track only.

Yes, yes, yes, you can use the +'s as a DD only pad, but apparently they dust like crazy and sqeal like a chick rocking an Ipod Dildo adapter.

How each brand of pad compares to another is also a hot topic, with people swearing up and down that one pad is better than another with statistical analysis done by NASA to prove it. For me, my rotors and pads are currently 1.6 OEM STOCK! I've got the Goodridge lines... but going from that to 1.8's w/RPS... gotta say I'm really looking forward to it.

I have hp+. They are loud and dusty...but I don't care.

Necropost bitches!!!!

So I finally got to the brake job today, after only 6 months or so. With Dan's help we tore into the job. It's so easy, the larger brackets just bolt up. I had always assumed that there was actually something difficult involved, but it's really not any different from doing a standard brake job, with exception of a little massaging of the rear shields, which only took a few minutes.

Here's the problem: Planet Miata sent me 3 1.8 brackets and 1 1.6 bracket. :td: :nono: I am missing the bracket I am supposed to use on the driver's front (which would have been the passenger's front on a 1.8 car, but you swap sides to do the swap). We did not realize that we didn't have the correct bracket for the driver's side until after the passenger's side was complete, and the driver's side was torn down. So we had to reinstall the 1.6 front brakes again.

I'm calling Planet Miata first thing Monday. Hopefully they will be cool and replace the incorrect bracket they sent me.

Positive side: Dan's car fired up and runs great again. He needed a coil pack, which he got from Paul. Thanks Paul.

cool deal, as long as they made it ok its all good

jtpaintballwdp 11-19-2007 07:45 PM

i had hp+ all around when i did the conversion at first, they are super loud. Now i am running HPS in front, and HP+ in the rear(sill a bit noisy), works pretty well.

Bryce 11-19-2007 07:47 PM

I love me some HPS's.

Dnace... banned for using single-word responses?

btw, i fuggin HATE axxis ultimates. they dust like mofos even on the rears. if they stopped as well as the HP+, i'd understand, but they aren't significantly d'frent from my OEM Honduh pads. piss me off.

the HP+ for $80 + free rotors was a killer bargain. great pads, dusty but damnit they work.

Ultimates make a nice street/autox pad... not much else.

I personally prefer Cobalt Friction pads above all else for anything resembling track usage.

Ben 11-20-2007 01:35 PM

I've also got a set of EBC greenstuff pads... but none of that matters w/o the bracket

Savington 11-20-2007 04:09 PM

Ben, I wouldn't take the HPS pads on the track. I faded HP+s at stock power on street tires. :(

Ben 11-20-2007 04:18 PM

These are for the street only. Might also try an autocross next year, to see what the hub-bub is about. I got a set of EBC greenstuff also for street use, because I understand they dust less than the Hawks. That's not normally a big deal to me, but there is a complete outdoor watering ban. I also got a set of either blues or blacks (don't remember) for track use for next year.

Last year I washed my cars weekly even through the watering ban because the penalties had no teeth. This year, you can go to jail. At the rate water is leaving our reservoir compared to the rate it's entering, they say most of metro atlanta could be out of water in 2 months.
