is this the fucked up 1.8 brake convo where you have to turn the 1.6 caliper upside down? I'd buy this shit, but I'm thinking I'll be better off with 1.8 calipers since I'm going to push the 1.8 brakes to their limits.

My Axxius ultimates stop like a mother. I even had people impressed with thier stopping distances that have "better" pads than do.
They do dust like a mofo, and that sucks when you have polished lips. They stay clean for like 3 days. |
You flip and swap the calper brackets around, IE FR 1.8 becomes FL on 1.6, RR 1.8 becomes RL 1.6 etc. Which *might* make it harder to access the bleeder, but I didn't try so :dunno:
I'll report back in a few days once I have time to finish this up. |

"When it comes time to install the caliper brackets, make sure the slider pins remain on the same side as before. If you're putting 1994-2002 brakes on a 1990-1993, this means the brackets will have to be swapped side to side." -- Tanner, Keith. Mazda Miata MX-5 Performance Projects. St. Paul: Motorbooks/MBI Publishing Co., 2003. p84
BTW, I did this 1.5 weeks ago, and remember well. How long ago did you do it? |
I dont care what keith says, I know what I did. I did not flip anything. ask around some people say yes, some say no. I know mine fit on my 92 with no flipping, because I was asking the same question.

Did you pull the 1.8 brackets off the car yourself, or otherwise know with certainty the original position of the brackets as you installed them onto your 92? The 1.8 brackets are swapped to the opposite side on the 1.6. They only bolt up one way, and it's frackin obvious. It's not rocket science here.

http://www.bigllama.com/miata/brake/bigbrake.htm says:
An interesting aspect of the brackets, as shown in this side by side comparison, the pivot socket for the calipers (highlighted in red in the image) is on opposite ends of the bracket. Thus the need for swapping sides when the brackets are installed--yes, you understand correct, the part number listed for the left side is used on the right and vice versa. In the image are the front left brackets; original on the bottom, new, larger on the top. http://www.bigllama.com/miata/brake/WarningF034.gifWarning: don't forget this when installation time comes. |

You don't listen man. That last quote sums it up beautifully:
