I know it's been suggested, but I had more of a problem with the 2-3 shift, prior to doing the motor mounts with the motor swap. Turned out they were both cracked in the rubber....

Might be worth a triple check. <G>

I'm gonna bleed the slave today, and since we have gotten two people asking about the mounts, I will triple check.

And yes the clutch is it when I shift :-P

You might also want to switch to a SS braided clutchline.

As far as you grind, how are your motor mounts?

Hey man, If it were the slave cylinder. it would scratch all gears. Not just 3rd. Try bleeding it anyway. It is a simple mark off the list.
I wouldn't take the whole thing out if 1,2,4,5th gears worked good.

This probably isn't it. But it is good maintenance anyway. My tranny was hard to shift in gear and I added oil to my shifter and it smoothed alot out. If your oil drained out of your shifter when the tranny was out this might help.

This was the first car I had ever had to add oil to the shifter. It only took a few minutes and helped alot.

Bleeding it for mait. too so getting it out of the way. I have a six speed so the oil that i add to the shift turret goes into the transmission. I wanted some kind of lubricant in there so I greased the shifter. That is probably along the lines of what hustler said to those guys at the bar .

Might just be worth checking....

When my tranny started having issues and I noticed that I could lift my tranny by pulling up on my shifter, it was too late....I wish I had checked.

Check the big motherfuckin bolts that go into the PPF. Mainly the ones that go into the tranny itself, not so much the ones on the rear.

One of mine came loose and fell while I was on the street, major suckage. I immediately had to pull over and fix it, and once I was under there I saw another was loose and one was missing.

The beginning of last summer I remember being out with the gf and just taking a drive and hearing a "clink" followed by a continuous scrappppiiinngggg, I pulled over and then like that it was gone. So I drove a little more and decided to pull over and take a look under the car and found nothing odd.

Then I started having problems going into gear once and awhile, and I noticed the shifter had some movement to it. Then I had to drive the car back home from New Haven (like a 45min drive) holding the tranny up the whole ride with the voodoo **** to keep it from bouncing. I didn't know what the **** was going on.

Next day, on my way home from the shop the same thing "clink" and scraping noise. I pulled over and put the right side of the car on a curb and climbed under and saw this 14" bolt bent to **** and hanging from the PPF. I luckily keep my toolbox in the trunk for **** like this. Put it back in, tightened the other one that was loose, and still have one missing (from the first clink I'm assuming). I plan on taking care of it for good while I'm currently doing the other work.

But no more problems with the tranny since then....

Can you imagine losing your driveshaft while driving down the street....you would think the driver would notice all the vibrations before it let go.

Vash, I noticed one of my bolts on the rear brace was loose once, luckily I cought it, no biggie even if it did come undone, it's only a brace. Now the PPF is a different story.

Scott, what are you hinting?

Yea man, the PPF right where it meets the tranny is where my **** was goin on.

Losing a driveshaft while driving has to ******* be awful. I wouldn't want that to happen to me.

WITNESS!

scott had one (loose!) bolt holding his drive shaft on. I ate a burger w/lars while he fixed it. awesome.

3rd gear could be lubrication or marginal clutch (do both 1 and 2 have synchros? does 3?)

Outside chance-tweaked shift fork? I could see it happening if there have been some missed 2-3 shifts in the past. Might indicate why only third gear.
