Buy you a T2 adapter plate and transmission, that may help.

well, 5speeds are cheap... just know that you will be replacing lots of them at the (assumed) power you are making at those boost levels... the 5 speed is vulnerable around 250 or so according to experienced people on here. its the torque that breaks them. if you wanna stick with the 5 speed, i would turn the boost down quite a bit

yeah.. the 6 speed isnt cheap... but in many cases you can find them for less than 1K. replace this one, turn the boost down... save the money, do the 6speed swap, then crank that shiz back up, and have fun. lol

5spd seems to be ticking time bombs if you are making any sort of power. 6spds seem to work better but it seems you still need to be gentle.

If you're too cheap for a 6 speed I got bad news for you.......That's the cheapest upgrade option.

Or you install a turbo with a smoother power onset and don't drive like an ***...

I killed 2 5spds with a JRSC45 lol....but I was driving it like a jackass and knew it...knew it was coming too. 6spd in current car has never given me a problem *knocks on wood*

Go 6 or buy 5spd spares for the future.

If you want to experiment, see if you can find a way to externally brace the 5spd case. The whole things distorts under load and that's what kills them. Just weld a bunch of bracing to the outside and see what happens

btdt

It seriously sucks because you still know in the back of your mind that you're walking the line and never sure which money shift is gonna take the gear with it.

also 18psi on a 70mm turbo should be well into the mid-high 300's and no 5sp is gonna last up there for a long time even with good driving.

time is money. a transmission change in y8s dollars is very expensive. y8spec shop rate is well over $100/hour. A ~3 hour trans change plus a new trans and you're half way to the cost of a 6 speed. if you buy the 6 speed, you not only save the cost of transmission #2 (because you bought the 6er instead) and #3, but you save the labor of trans #3.

Count those toward the cost of a 6 speed.

I perfomed the tranny press last weekend; I have the bruises to prove it.
