Default I'm a retard

So the last two days have been me outside working on installing my turbo kit. Part of this involved tapping the oil pan. So... I drain my oil. So far so good, right?

Well... I got so gung ho about finishing, and fire the car up. I let it idle for about 25 seconds before realizing that I'm a fucktard and forgot to put new oil in.

So... filled er up and so far so good. Doesn't seem like there was any damage. But I'll never really know I guess. Car runs (for now)... Lucky, I oil dumped the oil from the pan. I didn't change the filter since it's only been 1000kms. Hopefully that quart or so that was in there was enough to keep things lubricated.

What are the possible long term effects of running and engine without oil for 25-35 seconds?

Ya, ya go ahead make fun of me. I'm not usually one to do something this stupid. But I guess we all have our times.

Just out of curiosity did you drain the oil before or after you tapped the pan?

I doubt 25-35 seconds of idling will do much. Now had you gone out and romped on it a little it would probably be a different story.

Hopefully you flushed out the pan before you put oil back in. You should be fine.

Have a great day,
Jared

My bearings are toast after just cranking the engine over a bunch with fuel in the oil. Good luck.

It wouldn't hurt to pull the valve cover and check one of the cam caps for wear.

My cam caps are fine yet my main and rod bearings are screwed. Cams dont tell the whole story.

Put this in the list of mistakes you'll never make again. Sometimes this is how we learn.

Ya, I did. With oil and brake clean. The reason I left the old filter in as well is because I am only going to run this oil for a day or two then flush again. And it should be good. I also used grease on the drill bit to catch as much of the filings as I could.

I am a big virgin.

A shitty way to learn... but you're right. Car is going for dyno tuning next week. So if it lasts through that, I think all will be fine.

I'm pulling the cover to clean/paint it tomorrow. What would abnormal wear look like? I don't dabble in engine building. Only "external" things.
