most insurance companies won't have a problem with your removing the a/m pieces as long as they are replaced with the OEM parts. if I totaled my car or thought it was totaled and it was not drivable, I would have it towed home and pull all the good parts before they took it to the auction.

my Miata was a total that I'm rebuilding, I have $1000 in the car with the towing, which was $200 BTW. I would say the original owner could have bought the car back for $300~400 maybe, just a ballpark. just depends on the company and your estimater I think.

oh yea, I would try and stay away from Geico...

Older cars = less to insure. That being said...35 or 37/month from Progressive.

I own a house though, 26 and live in a good hood.

91 Miata $100,000/300,000 Liability
99 Miata Full Coverage
95 Civic SI $100,000/300,000 Liability
93 Suburban $100,000/300,000 Liability

$140.17 per month. Although, I just got my first real speeding ticket that I had to pay (60 in a 40), I am hoping that it does not go up. Other than that, I had two tickets in the past year: one non-moving violation that I paid and one BS moving violation that got dismissed after sending it in not guilty.

I used to have Geico. By switching to my current provider I saved 600.00 a year.
