I've got a 98 ranger with the 2.5 which is very similar to the 2.3L if I'm not mistaken. Got a volvo T3 laying around and I've been thinking about it. Heater-core is right where the downpipe would go so it might need a crazy manifold or something.

But the biggest advantage is the instant removal of nearly 150 lbs directly above the front axle, because that engine is all-aluminum unlike the B6/BP. That would give you a much more favorable weight distribution (closer to 45/55 than the existing 50/50) specially if coupled with a heavier rear diff.
I'd say, if nothing, get the powertrain, wiring, and motor mounts from that vehicle in the yard. And then sell the mounts to me. I have a Duratec lying around.
