Was it a custom swap or one of the V8 roadsters/Boss frog kits?

Congrats... nice buy. Lots of car and equipment for that much $$

You planning driving it back to TX? Be sure to hit up the Eastern TN mountains on the way..

If you fly into Charlotte, and need a ride to the sellers place ill provide the transportation for a free ride in it of course.Looks about 1 hour outside of Charlotte. Hit me up with a PM if you want, possibly it would work out schedule etc.

Were having a 24hr auto-x this labor day weekend, you could come with it for. Plenty for people to drool over.

And as luck would have it, I am heading that direction on business soon.

Do you need someone to drive it back to San Antonio?

Larry thanks for the offer. Tempting, but I think I am going to go get it myself. I want to be there in person to do the financial transaction, and to look the car over thoroughly to make sure everything looks good. Plus, I am due for a road trip anyway

Jedduh the seller is going to meet me at the Charlotte airport. But thanks for the offer just the same.

I know the guy who built that car, he is local. $12k is a great price and definitely cheaper than the original cost to put it together. The 2nd owner lost several thousand dollars compared to what he paid Jesse for it.

Always good to hear something like that, especially after pulling the trigger.

Thanks for the information.

I have wanted a V8 Miata for awhile now, and have researched it off and on. The last few months a buddy of mine and I, an FI Miataphile/roadracer/instructor, have been brainstorming over lunches about crazy ideas on how to build a bulletproof Miata road racer, and other things such as what classes one would race in, available tires, beating Vettes/Porsches etc. He went with me when I test drove an aluminum head Ford 5.0/T5 Monster last month. He and I have both been pricing out V8 builds, and have been coming to the same conclusions; it is expensive and/or time consuming. So when I saw this, I already knew what I wanted and pulled the trigger.

No worries, I still luvz the turboz and who knows when I get the turbo motor back in the turbo car, and get it properly tuned, it will probably make as much power as the LS1, if not more.

Who knows, maybe I will turbocharge the LS1 one of these days. Think rear mount. A 500 WHP 2200 lb. Miata with aero/brakes/suspension/r-comps... now that would be a kick in the ***.

why wouldn't you swap out the suspensions on the 2 cars? it would be so easy. i've done it a few times before. your daily could use the comfy setup, and you know that monster is gonna need your tein setup. awesome deal too!

btw - if anyone is interested, my buddy has a ls2 fd rx7 for sale. can't begin to explain how awesome everything on it is. he only want's 18k for it.

Racingconcepts kit. They were the first to offer a kit but the guy who built the kits was in over his head and ended up ripping a lot of people off. The guy who built this car was a frequent poster on M.net and did a good job with it. It's probably the 2nd kit Racingconcepts made (the first being in their shop car which caught on fire 5 hours after it was sold).

This was a very good deal. Labor alone is a huge expense in an LSX build.

Because the LS1 car has different mass distribution and there the weight distriution during lateral and longitudinal acceleration will require a properly configured set of springs with corrected valving inside. For most normal people the differences would be ok but as a trackslag it would be hugely noticable.
I'd guess that under hard braking that thing will lunge forward like a headbutt.

Nice buy ZX. You've got two cars I want now

Interested to know if you get better gas mileage than a regular miata.

so you mean to tell me that a set of agx shocks with what look like stock springs are stiffer and better suited to a ls1 swapped miata, than a set of tein monoflex coilover's. jesus, thank god i haven't spent a fortune on tein's and still have my agx. i also didn't know that you couldn't swap springs on the tein's or that monoflex are so weak that you would require a revalve to run higher rate springs than std.
also wonder how much you guys think an all aluminum ls1 weighs compared to an iron block 1.8l. how about a 1.8 with a turbo, manifold, i/c piping, intercooler, and in this case, an a/c compressor, power steering system,etc.... sounds like you guys think they weigh 400lbs. more or
something.
thanks for clearing that up. good point.

According to what I have read, the LS1/T56/8.8 powertrain adds less than 200 lbs to the car, and that is not all in the front of course. I am still researching the specifics of this particular conversion kit, so it is possible that it places the engine slightly forward of say the FM kit, or even higher. But, I do not expect that it will be unmanageable to the point that it cannot be made track worthy with some proper spring selections and suspension tuning. Besides most of the Teins are designed to handle higher spring rates than what they come with, especially the adjustable ones. Yes I know Basics are not externally adjustable for compression/rebound

The 1.8L iron block is pretty heavy, even when empty. Ever pick one up?

Some have reported 30+ MPG on the highway with the LS conversions even when cruising at 70-75 MPH. I normally track mileage so I'll report in on what I get on the drive back to Texas. Not that I care so much for this car, but I am curious.

Thanks, it seems to me that the 1.8s don't get that good of gas mileage for the size and weight of the car. DOn't know how adding 3.9L to it will help, but most seem to be able to squeeze 30 on the highway in an f-bod, and higher in a vette.

zxtex, you know my post was directed towards r2jwilson's stupid answer for why you wouldn't just install the flex off your other car onto this one right? you just repeated everything i said (without the sarcasm). ahhh, oops! i could have sworn you had tein monoflex on your '99. well, those won't be enough for your monster, but maybe still better than what is on the car now!
