Would I be correct in thinking that the more negative the number on the measurements he made to more vacuum is created? Meaning you want to put a vent on the most negative number?

 

Yep, that's correct. More negative, more vacuum, better delta P. You want the vent right behind the radiator, just like the GV hood from post 14.

Do a fiberglass version of that, with molded headlight lids, and the vent in the same place, and I know of at least 2 people that will buy one. Make sure the skeleton is bonded to the hood so it isn't a floppy flimsy mess (i.e. not hustler's ****).

While we're at it, can we get a simple, straight hood that goes all the way out in the front corners for those of us getting rid of the barn doors?

I'm about to start building a bulky bracket just to hold those stinkin' covers in place (putting HIDs in turn signals), and would love a flat (no bulge), square hood with one simple extractor in it.

I'm glad you've decided to come up with your own design, seems like a good solution all the way around.

 

creating two molds with and without barn doors is so absolutely trivial since 99% of the cost of the hood is in labor and materials. I say copy the **** to both options and sell it to everyone.

incidentally, I remember FM's testing with yarn and their claim that the rear vents made the yarn flip around or something. I'd have to find the original thread. I dont recall them using the magnehelic pressure gauge.

Of course once you cut the holes open, your pressure tests are going to change since you have two air paths (one on each side of the hood) and the underside might also be at a vacuum. So yeah, check that **** before you build one.

 

Making two molds wouldn't be that bad at all. I would have the regular one first to test fit and a little while later have the headlight covering one.

Anyone know of a drop in vent that looks like the GV hood vent? Would make things go significantly faster. How about a whole GV hood.................

 

If I had a GV hood I'd let you borrow.

+1 on that being the best design so far..that is the hotness, and what I would build if I had the ability.

 

I can tell you that a scoop like the one on my hood absolutely works. A few weeks ago I accidentally left my oil fill cap off. The only way I found out about it was because oil was being sucked out of the scoop and up the hood to the windshield. Which means the oil was being sucked forward towards the scoop and then out.

It's as easy as cutting a hole in your stock hood and bolting in a $100 scoop. Lets get a better bumper available.

That sure would look good molded into my extractor hood. If this is easily available, is there still a demand for me to do this with that front vent? I know it is $120, but that is how much shipping alone would be atleast for this hood.
