:x::x::x:

I'll try to not bug you and spoolin2bars too much for a month or so, the key word being try ;)

rharris19 10-23-2009 11:59 AM

First hood has been popped out. I am going to start making the integrated headlight cover one with it. The hood weight is about 2-3lbs more than the stock hood. Someone came by to give me a demo on vacuum bagging and the system I would need to make a significant dent on materials use would be atleast $1700 for an industrial grade unit. I need industrial garde to be able to withstand the atmosphere it is in. Sorry it couldn't be lighter.

Another camera phone pic. I will have a better camera when I get back from the weekend and take more pictures.

Hey i notice you have a red door there... any possibility that you could paint some hoods to match?? My car's the classic red color.. it would definitely be a nice value-add to have it ready-to-mount on delivery..

hustler 10-23-2009 01:28 PM

damn, nice hood. I still don't have my FM hood on.

Did you ever get my check?

I do not want to paint any of these becasue the paint could get a scratch in shipping or the color not match exactly, etc. Too much of a hassle for me to deal with. Plus, I am an OK painter, not great.

Thank you kind sir. Are you not going to get your car painted with the FM hood on? And yes I did get your check. I should hopefully be getting out of here in time to deposit it.

hustler 10-23-2009 02:54 PM

I love sending out "FEMA checks." lol

Yeah, I'm probably going to stick with the FM hood. I'm too tired to change stuff like that right now.

rharris19 10-23-2009 03:07 PM

My wife came in with a puzzled look on her face asking why we were getting letters in from FEMA. I told her it was my guvment check.

seraph 10-23-2009 03:48 PM

do you make bumpers? I'd love the front bumper off the silver one behind the blue car in the pic from Cspence

Unless you have a bumper that i can make a mold directly off of, then I am not going to be making any bumpers. It is beyond my skills. This hood took enough out of me and look how simple this thing is.

slutz4 10-24-2009 09:27 AM

how does the hood attach to the hinges? Are you gonna put studs in the hood like factory?

Hood looks good btw .

Cspence 10-24-2009 11:37 AM

Looks good...can't wait to see the solid one and some pictures of it on a car!

BTW because I'm a dumbass, what the hell is this,

"Someone came by to give me a demo on vacuum bagging and the system I would need to make a significant dent on materials use would be atleast $1700 for an industrial grade unit"

The hoods will have the factory threaded bolts, M8 1.25, in the hoods with a back washer welded on the base of the bolt so that the bolt doesn't break out of the fiberglass like snowboarder's autokonxeion hood did.

gospeed81 10-24-2009 03:26 PM

Maybe if I'm good this year my Latin Mrs. Santa will bring me one of these and an RB bumper.

Here are a few pics of these fenders. We laid them against my car to show how nice they line up "oem fit". With my pulled fenders showed 3" more clearance with these fenders.

Be careful with them! They're mine after your done with the molds...;)

On another note, I think your going to be making money hand over fist once you start rolling out the copies...these flares seem like they have a cult like following

p51hellfire 10-29-2009 01:41 PM

man If there not to unreasonable I'd be in for a set!

Savington 10-29-2009 02:07 PM

When do I get to pay you for my hood with molded lids?

gospeed81 10-29-2009 02:29 PM

I would be in for buying the flares first. This is an item that's always been way down my list due to price...but would be way up there if it was affordable.

+1 I don't need a hood, but affordable N2 flares would be awesome!

I'm with Savington on this. When do I get to pay you for my hood?

I have a small interest in the flares and think it would be great if you can offer a more cost effective alternative, but want to see the hoods finished and functioning first.

Reverend Greg 10-29-2009 05:04 PM

I buy lidless hood first then I want flares.rharris for president of miatas.

rharris19 10-29-2009 06:34 PM

Pushing the hood as hard as I can. We have had a fair amount of work come in that we had to go outside of the shop for a week, so things are busy. I am not putting you guys off, and I am getting back to the hood mid next week. Just wanted to give an update. Should have the headlight one done by next Friday or the following Monday, IF nothing else comes in.

I do have the regular one done and I will be testing it next week on my car. I don't see any problems, but I want to make sure.

Reverend Greg 10-29-2009 08:39 PM

Congratulations on the influx of work,I know how hard these lean times can be.

rharris19 10-29-2009 09:35 PM

It has been pretty slow and we have to jump on work whenever it comes in immediately. Luckily, we have stuff that seems to come in at convenient times right when another project ends. good for my bottom line, but bad for you guys. I am sorry for the delay in getting these to you guys , I truly am. I know some of ya'll are looking forward to this and I hate to make you wait. Especially after all the help this community has given me over the years with getting my car going.

Is all this side work for you...or is this your business?

rharris19 10-29-2009 09:59 PM

This is side work at my business. I have a shop that does fiberglass work on various things, but took this on on the side to help the guys get more work and get desired parts to you guys cheaper.

Ahh, this makes sense now! I wish I had the capabilities to do fiberglass work at my company...but I can't complain, its nice having all the sheet metal resources ;) We also do injection molding, but no matter how much I tell upper management to get into making car parts, they never listen :vash:

i can't believe some of the shit they did. it was crazy. in one episode they are using the wall socket to weld! in another there a whole crew of slaves scraping the paint off the roof with old hacksaw blades! did you see the 8" wheel spacers? death traps is what they're building. but even though they are making fugly cars, the fact that they did even that with the tools they had was kinda amazing.

triple88a 10-31-2009 12:39 PM

they are using 26 gauge steel, you can bend that with your fingers easily. This car is a death trap.

for the first episode they used 6" truck spacers.
The spacers look like these but the mounting plates are much wider apart since this is a 3" suspension spacer
