The hood looks amazing!...but the flares have my heart for now, lol! When do you anticipate starting a production run on the lidless hoods? I'm thinkin this will be my Christmas gift ;).... The flares and the hardtop were just a, "you deserve it"...:giggle:

What the hell is that you use to make the molds??

No bashin dogs...I love my damn pup more than anything!

The pieces are first sprayed with a liquid that turns into a thing layer of green plastic. Then I spray gelcoat over that in a contrasting color to what the parts will be. After that, I start laying 4-6 layers of fiberglass depending on how big the part will be. The hoods were done with 6 and the fender flares were done with 4. Pretty easy, but you just have to watch for any bubbles in the glass where it didn't go down right.

rharris19 11-10-2009 11:23 PM

Lidless hoods will be made soon, but I want to stop giving an anticipated date at this point due to the fact that I don't know how much time I can alot to this right now. As of now i am working on it a little every night, but I don't have all day to do it like I had. If we get nothing other than these deer stands in the next week, then I would anticipate I could be pumping these out in less than two weeks. I just can't tell you definitively when I can start. It is all work load related.

I take it the Green plastic is so you can take the "thing" being molded out...

Gel coat to give the inside of the mold a smooth finish..

And fiberglass for structure...

The bubbles I presume would just cause defects and blemishes...

Hehe looking good though, i'm surprised how shinny and smooth it came out. Good work man. Hoping to see some NB parts.

tyson87 11-11-2009 09:45 AM

did you come up with the price on teh flares yet?
obviously u will be selling at least 10 sets instantly.

(please keep the price down so i can get a set)

rharris19 11-11-2009 11:44 AM

Probably somewhere in the $375-425 range. I am still trying to figure that out.

Damn! I got ripped off...:giggle: The premium I paid is worth getting the orignals....to me at least

Fairly priced I must say though, your going to sell boat loads! When you go into production, post something over at CR to rake in some more!

rharris19 11-11-2009 12:26 PM

I am not making much on them. Just enough to keep my interest and get a front subframe for an LS1 after a while.

It'll be worth your while....we have to come up with something else to have you make now....bumpers ;)

rharris19 11-11-2009 12:34 PM

I have no desire to make a new bumper. To get that symmetric, a design that doesn't kill me to do, and one that will sell well, is a pain in the ass I don't want to deal with. No offense. I am open to ideas, but have little to no desire for that.

And watch them go up in arms about how they're knockoffs. lol A lot of people lost their minds when the knockoff GV lip came out.
But yeah, great price! Definitely watching this in anticipation of ordering a set.

rharris19 11-11-2009 03:08 PM

Even if I don't get any sales over there, which Im sure I will, it will be entertaining to see them flip out.

Thought you were selling your car??....Your probably right that some people will make a stink...but many will still buy. I mean, its either spend $900 or spend $450...big difference. Having the opportunity to buy the originals for a decent price I jumped on it like white on rice, but if I didn't have that chance I would most certainly be buying replicas without a doubt!

I am selling my car. However, I'm 99.9% sure there will be a new project NA in the works sooner or later and I'll snag these while they're available.
There will be a stink, but there will be plenty of sales too. I was jealous when you snagged the originals, but the replicas will suit me just fine. :)

I dont blame ya...I am content with my bumper now anyways with all the work I have involved in the ducting....however this would be nice if you could reproduce and still turn a profit for less than Autokonexion is selling it for ($450 Shipped):

rharris19 11-13-2009 04:21 PM

Regular hood is now ready to be made and shipped out. Price will be $225 and probably cost around $100 to ship. I am getting quotes from fedex ground as well as fedex freight and central freight for this piece. I will let you guys know early next week on that.

I want to get all of this done before taking on more projects. That company is based in the US too and could cause a little more of a problem than I want to deal with if I start making copies.

Dogs with cone heads are always open to ridicule in my book.

I used to have real dogs I loved and respected too. Now I've got this weird little pig thing I can't help but laugh at.

Will you be offering the hood in carbon fiber?

Not right now. If i do, it won't be for a while. Unless you are a hardcore racer that needs the extra 5-7lbs, then it is all just for looks. Trying to get fucntion to the most people and form may follow later. If there is enough demand for it, then i may concider it in the future, but now right now.

Gryff 11-13-2009 05:11 PM

I thought it was function and looks? isnt the shape of it supposed to vaccuum air out of the engine bay?

Reverend Greg 11-13-2009 05:24 PM

What if you made a Hood skin that is lighter than the Hood you have made,I will use 2 sets of pins,so no hinges. That may lower the weight,Less material.Just trying to make a wieght goal, and you can even charge the same amount for the thing,Les mat, less work same money.
All win... -G-

rharris19 11-13-2009 05:35 PM

Greg. That shouldn't be a problem. I only worry about having no real under support, but that is probably just me worrying too much. I should be able to accomidate that.

Gryff. They do look good in my opinion, but the main goal of this was to make something that works well and doesn't look like a home project gone wrong. Basically what I was saying is that I am to going to be focusing on asthetic changes when other parts need to be done first. Plus, I may use the money I get from the flares to get the proper equipment for carbon fiber instead of my ls1 stuff. That way the carbon fiber wont just be for looks.

Gryff 11-13-2009 06:00 PM

Function was what i was looking for, I just got confused for a minute there.

Reverend Greg 11-13-2009 06:44 PM

Dont get me wrong I was In the Buy Regardless,I just want a Light ass hood. Thanks Bro.!

Cspence 11-13-2009 08:27 PM

How the flare molds doin? They all set :x:

I will probably start a new thread pretty soon about buying the hoods so people don't have to search through 20 pages to find what they need. It is getting pretty repetative.

Gryff 11-14-2009 09:56 PM

^ you can say that again!
