limits of a miata motor?

A 12cm HX35 with a properly designed split scroll manifold will spool faster than a hy35. I have logs and dyno sheets to prove this.
Also, it is a bad idea to get turbo tech from honduh boyz. There is no sense in running a large turbo on a small engine at low (read 6-8psi) boost levels. We run smaller turbos because they offer the power that we want and also have a very fast spool giving a broader powerband.

I feel bad for the Honda guys who know WTF they are doing. It must be like the experience of a MENSA member at a Raiders game.
It would be pretty awesome if Miatas had a B or K series engine stock.

I can image we'd be just like em if we had the B & K motors in our cars. Every other idiot putting out 400-500hp with huge laggy turbos ruining the driveability and character of the Miata. Faak. One reason for the higher percentage of knowledge and thoughtfulness on this forum is it takes work to make power with the Mazda BP.
I really wish we could make easy power like those damn honda motors do though.

Thats a really good point, I never thought of it that way. Looking at it that way now, your dead-on that these cars would have ended up the exact same way.
The 3800 is OK if it has turbos on it. The GNs are sweet IMHO. If the Miata engine bay was limited by length instead of width a 3800 would be an awesome option.
For a 3 window high boy, its...not what I would go with......

okay i was wondering what are the weaker links of the miata motor/driveline? but i am asking before i buy a miata so i know what i can expect.i would eventually plan on going turbo with the car as well. i also was wondering from what little i have looked around so far why everyone's going with such a small turbo(disco potato), i am use to seeing honda's that are running holsets, so that turbo is way tiny then your average holset. but i went and test drove a nice little NA miata with the 1.8L(1996) which seemed like it could be a fun car with more power.
