Wow. How much does a new Miata cost in Portugal? I think we're lucky here in the US costwise.

The 1.5 version with less equipment costs 25 000 € and the fully loaded is 31 000 €. The 2.0 costs 38 000€ in base trim and with BBS and the lot is 42 000€!!

I bought the 1.5 with the mid-level equipment which costs 28 800€.
960kg and 131 PS, it will be my daily.

The US-spec (2.0) base model I drove had a $26K sticker with the Soul Red paint. At today's exchange rate, that's 24K Euros. So, we have a 60% discount for the 2.0!

Hornetball – It´s crazy isn’t? And consider that the minimum wage over here is 505€ …

Dleavitt - Good question! It´s a big part of the final price!

1.5 – 2615€ of isv (One tax based on your car displacement and CO2) and 6022€ of another Tax (23% over the base price!) . On top of that the 1.5 has a Road Tax (Yes another on) of 150€ per year.

2.0 – 5960 of isv and another 7369€ of tax. Road Tax is 350€ per year.

That's absurd.

But congrats on the sweet new car.

That seriously blows, and pretty much accounts for the difference between the US pricing and yours. At least you know Mazda isn't the one fleecing you!

Could do without the decals, but love the color and carbon trim.

Our first day playing around with our new EcuTek software. Just a few runs to start learning the sfotware and how the ECU behaves. Setup details listed on plot. It is a relatively complex ECU with many interacting tables. Far beyond what we do with say, an MS3 Pro in an NB2 engine. In many cases, you can't just change one table to effect a change. Constant monitoring of the live channels and logs to see what the ECU is doing during the pull, then figure out how to compensate or override with another table or two to get the desired result. Much to learn still but we're off to a good start with about an 19whp gain at 6500rpm.

This is the first Dynojet SAE corrected run I have personally seen. It's good to finally know where we are at without having to guess at other dynos relative calibration, correction factors, etc. This was done with 245/40/17 RE71R's at 30psi cold. Guessing OEM tires would be worth 2-3whp.

Nice to finally see a dynojet plot! Any idea how much the exhaust was worth by itself?

Nope. By my guesstimation, a stone stock car on the same dyno would make about 137whp. I'll have to wait until I can borrow Oscar's car to get a baseline.

It's nice that the stock ECU can be modified, but it sounds like such a hassle. This sounds like more of a box tune situation than something that will be practical for the average guy that wants to add a turbo and tune his car.

self tuning is a thing of the past with modern OEM ecu's for the common n00b.

the only people that are not professionals that do it themselves are people that have been learning/adapting/tinkering most of their life and pretty much know modern ecu's or know how to figure them out.

it's good and bad. good because there's less dumb people that can screw things up. bad cause you're at "your tuners" mercy and basically helpless to adjust or update or change anything ever

Yes. Fore most DIY tuners its going to be a bit too complex. It's a steep learning curve for me so I'm dipping my toe in the water carefully. In a few weeks I'll give to Shawn Church to pro double check my work and see if he can find any more power.
