If that screen has a laptimer app and can record video . . . win!

It doesn't bother me at all. People festoon their car interiors with GPS units, radar detectors, A-pillar pods, etc...one integrated screen that sits in the center is fine. And it lets the rest of the dashboard stay quite low.

based on limited experiences with rental cars - that screen does not detract whatsoever - it is completely fixed, there for the breaking. This seems to be a new annoying trend in car manufacturing.

Duct tape.

I hate all of the crap mandated by the effing government to make cars heavier and more expensive.

The volvo/Mercedes versions of that retract, but a lot of them fail, so it could be a good thing it doesn't retract.

I'm running 245/35-17's on my Catfish, and there really aren't that many options for tires. With the ND, I think this will open up big time and Toyo (et al) will add some new sizes. BTW, 245/35-17 is a 23.7" tire that's 9.6" wide.

I've seen and talked to people who think that even a 225 series tire is too much for this weight vehicle. Not true. When the rubber heats up, there's a whole new world of grip out there...

My , the ND has the potential to be head and shoulders the best of the bunch. This is not a knock on any other generation, but I think that this is a car that may leave a bigger mark on history than the original.

If they release a FRC it will be nice, but it will never leave a bigger mark then the NA did. The current market is not as empty as it was and only one can be first.

My hope is that I can keep my NBs alive until it's time to make a racer out of a ND. Never liked the NC high sideline soapbox look.
If there still is a big block engine available from a simple swap (not a unique bolt pattern etc) this will still be reasonable. The times for a simple bandaids turbo kit is long gone though.

Best how? You seem focused on performance here, but that's never been why the Miata sold so well.

"Whining about the screen"

Audi

Mercedes

BMW

All the big boys are doing it so Mazda has just gotten with the times by not releasing an interior that looks dated 3 minutes after you leave the dealer...
I think it looks great, performance will be a bit on the weak side so I doubt I will buy one until there are some proper aftermarket power bolt ons available. Hopefully this surfaces faster than what they did for the NC generation... 200whp ND daily would be lovely.

I doubt that. It maybe the best car so far, but leaving a mark on history requires doing something new and sensationalist. its doubtful the new miata can make that big of an impact on its own market.

Market leaders tend not to innovate much. Plus, there is nothing new about the formula to "wow!" everyone. Now if mazda brings GT-R (similar how the GTR brought supercar performance for 90k when it first came out) like performance for $30 grand, you might find that having a big impact...

Performance ideas aside, this is a great car. How many other manufacturers actually listened and brought weight down 4 generations later into a car's life? I think its spectatcular that Mazda has put most of its effort in weight savings and a decent looking car.

My problem is not with the screens, it's with the software that drives them.

It will be shitty.

Very very shitty.

I think that hinges on what engine/power we actually end up with.

If we end up with a 1.5 with 155hp? No thanks.

A 2.0 with 180-200hp? Win!

It's going to be closer to 160-165hp out of a 2.0L. The 1.5L is the overseas motor that is sold due to taxation based on emissions and engine displacement. The 1.5L in the new Mazda2 is going to make around 115hp if I'm remembering correctly; it's the same deal with being able to buy a 1.6L in an NB or a 1.8L in the NC.

Apparently linux-based, and if not exactly open-source, then at least very crackable, according to so-and-so over at m.net.

Things you can do on miata.net: Call something autistic looking and say it has that autistic puffy-eyed look

Things you cannot do on miata.net: Say "that's a fucked up thing to say"

I read a quote from one of the Mazda execs that "less HP won't work in America, they won't allow it."

Essentially saying the American market buyers won't allow for a new model that has less HP.

Have you used the software that runs that screen in the 3? It's pretty fantastic.
