I didn't notice it initially, but there's a HUD.

THE FUTURE IS NOW

hornetball 07-17-2014 11:22 AM

A HUD and a giant tach front and center. Thumbs up. I love Mazda engineering. They're great.

fooger03 07-17-2014 12:33 PM

Tachometers and automatic gearboxes with faux "manual mode" are a tragic oxymoron. If the ECU gets a vote in gear selection, then there is simply no need for a tach - ever. The only exception to this rule is the ECU preventing a downshift which would result in over-revs. Unless I can bounce off of the rev limiter of this car for an ECU-Unlimited time period, the tachometer should be replaced with a giant "The engine is running" light bulb.

I've driven manuals without tachs. I'll take every car having a tach regardless of tranny than a lot of cars not having tachs even when manual.

MZR or Skyactiv-G?
Or are the blocks/cranks identical (I would have guessed narrower bearings and other emissions crap on the Skyactiv).

MZR is a mazda L engine, Skyactiv-G is a P engine.

I'd love if the MX5 ended up coming out with the Skyactiv-D

MZR

I'm very seriously considering taking my car to him next to install a built 2.5 $5500 installed and tuned for ~200-210whp in the NC would be blast.

I second this. It has racing development backing it and offers more aftermarket potential.

everyone wants the D

Skyactive D

The S models of the 3 have this exact same setup.

Why so many people bash the high-mounted screen is totally beyond me. Does it look kinda funny? Sure. But it's simple, and it keeps your eyes on nearly the same level as the road. It's brilliant, and the command knob works really really well.

This is totally ridiculous.

Yeah, this looks great. My biggest fear with the new 2 (and mazda over the next 10 years) is that in an effort to appeal to more people the car will get softer and the driving dynamics will suffer. The current 2 is ridiculously fun on a quiet city street where you don't notice how gutless it is. Is there a law that you need to slow down for a 90 degree turn? :)

Have you driven any of the new Mazdas (CX-5, 2014 Mazda 3, 2014+ Mazda 6)? They are outstanding to drive. I drive a 2012 3 daily and really like it, but every time I hop in a new 2014 3 it's a revelation, both in quality and in the ride/handling.

Fantastic find.

*wonders if he should wait for ND reveal before dropping big money suspension on NC*

Isn't the reveal date supposed to be September 3rd or something? If you don't need the NC suspension before then for a race or something, holding off probably won't hurt you that much.

18psi 07-22-2014 09:22 AM

great find with all those pictures. looks promising for sure. too bad still don't see a turbo strapped to the side of that block

Dunning Kruger Affect 07-22-2014 09:22 AM

Few things that I find noteworthy: the oil filter is in the right spot, some long intake AND exhaust runners (no turbo), and definitely 4 lug hubs.

Which brings me to my next point that it can only mean one thing: 949racing is the OE supplier for ND wheels for Mazda. WHERE ARE THE WHEELS, EMILIO?

Hmmmm, I wonder when they are actually supposed to go on sale (yes I'm too lazy to go back through this thread to see if it's been mentioned).

Mazda said to investors that they would deliver two new Skyactiv models before the end of Q1 2015 (March 31, 2015).

2015/2016 Mazda2 goes on sale in the fall for Japan, next year for US market
2016 MX-5 sold in January 2015 as a 2016 model like the 2014 Mazda6

Der_Idiot 07-22-2014 11:03 AM

Looks nice, I think there's plenty of room for a 6758 and manifold...
