Just got home from picking up my new 6spd

50k miles.... 2004 mazdaspeed... $650 + tax

One question...

Do you need to fill the shifter housing like you do on the 5 speeds? I didnt see a separate drain plug.

No, don't fill it. It would take about 5 quarts. It is all connected together. Just fill the transmission to the fill plug dripping.

Capacity is 1.84 quarts, just make sure it's drained and stick all of one quart and almost all of another quart in.

car-part.com is your friend.

I got it in last night. 3 hours from start to finish. I love it!!

The 5 speed had a big ole' gear tooth stuck to the magnetic drain plug. OOPS!

You're a **********.

Good job though with car-part. Unfortunately, all the parts I want require shipping and most of those yards charge a shitload for shipping. Enough to make car-part suck.

Has anyone put a regular 6 speed in a mazdaspeed miata? I assume they would bolt right up to one another. I want to swtich out with the one in my girlfriends car

haha yeah they are the same. Apparently stronger gears in the mazdaspeed... swap them out

I got lucky and picked up the trani from the place i found thru car-part. It was still a 4 hour round trip tho.

i doubt its the motor mounts. my 5spd was centered. I am still unsure of how it could be the diff too. It was fine with my 5spd and nothing was noticeably broken when I was replacing the trani. it drives perfect too. ill look under there asap

EDIT: i have mazdaspeed mounts btw
EDIT #2: I know my diff mounts are pretty shot. could this do it?

I do to, but shifter is still centered left-to-right

Possibly, but I really doubt it. Those diff mounts are tough as ****!! Try removing one, and then you'll know Try disconnecting the PPF and see if it easily wiggles to the center of the hole - better yet, grab your diff and shake violently!
run your finger up the engine/bell housing seam, make sure there's no gap. Check your motor mounts and ensure that they're placed correctly.

-motor mounts as expected are still in and tight. I did not pull the motor to do the trans.
- Transmission is tight against engine block
- My diff looks fine (thank god)
the transmission is noticebly pointing to the pass side. Maybe the motor shifted on its mounts a tiny bit when I removed the trans. I am gunna probably try to loosen up the mounts and PPF and just retighten them.

here are some crappy pics.

I don't think that's a tooth considering we have helical gear teeth, not spur gears.

How hard did your car jerk when te trans blew. I would have to say you twisted something when it went. Either that or the inside of your car twisted when you launched using launch control.
