Default MSM Engine Managment

My brother is in the market for a new Miata and asked me to take a look at this one:
2005 Mazda Mazdaspeed Miata

According to the description, it has had some minor upgrades done to it, but what has me concerned is the blow off valve. Doesn't the Mazdaspeed Miata use a MAF based engine management? Is there some trick to preventing the engine from stumbling and going stupid rich every time you lift the throttle that I am not aware of?

My cursory google search for answers seemed to indicate that is was a common modification, and that rough running may be fixed by moving the MAF sensor. But even if this helps the idle, I don't see how it helps keep your AFR's from diving when you change gears...

is it worth looking at? I am concerned what constantly going that rich would do to the cylinders. I am also wary of other modifications that may have been done if the owner seems to not know what he was doing.

I'm pretty sure that model of blow off valve can be recirculated into the air behind the MAF.

I'd say that the BOV is less worrisome than the horrible lean conditions that the factory ECU causes in the first place.

Also: That's the FM intake kit. BOV will be set up for full recirculation.

I'm in Indy. Car has 88k on it, 2004. I can't take $8k for it though, so if that's the budget, it'd probably be better to not waste everyone's time.
