Think I found something that'll let the heat out, looks finished and fits. Needs paint - and one day might blend it in with the hood. Plan is to let it form to the hood a little better after some heat cycles, then paint it.

I drove around with just the hole in the hood and my coolant temps were 4-6c lower. Haven't tried it installed, but based on everything I've seen, it will work. The real test will be this summer.

 

What did you do your cutting with?

Nice, even nicer if blended in with the hood and painted. Get some good plaster though, or it will crack.

Yeah, but then he'd be into the hood bulge, and blending it in (or just getting it to sit flat) might be a problem. With some careful trimming and glassing, he may have been able to get it an inch or so back. Would that really make much of a difference?

 

Yes, I got it as far as I could using a flange type install and not interfering with OE bulge. I'm gonna run it as is (plus a coat of paint) and see what happens come summer.

Scott wins- mini scoop turned around. It's not a smooth fit, but the plastic has a enough flex that it will form. I'm thinking some good heat cycles will relax it. I used the four OE mounting points (8mm bolts) and tab at the front. I'll add some under side pics later. Nothing pretty to see that's for sure.

 

Well, ****. That looks pretty good for a non-blended scoop. Makes me think about the Autokonexion hood again...

almost pulled the trigger on one myself, so it looked very familiar....just went ahead and bought the carbontrix CF scoop myself...you gave me inspiration.

another good choice might be a legacy or wrx scoop turned around.

 

It does look like the carbontrix- curious to see how they differ installed.

I forgot to mention that I think this scoop will work rotated around as a scoop in the nose between the parking lights. Looks like it will follow the contour of the nose quite well - of course finding out for sure requires cutting a hole.

 

Could you measure the width, length of the scoop and size of the opening for me?
