I was going out to dinner last night and my wife goes to shut the door and it won't close. I brought it back and the mechanism is open the way it should be but it won't latch. Usually they click in to latch and this one just swings back. I took the panel off and got my hand in there but I don't know what the problem is. I tried to remove the mechanism but I don't know how to get the rods off. If anybody has any advice I would appreciate it. Thanks.

 

the rods have plastic pieces that hold them in. you snap the plastic piece off the rod, it twists in a circular fashion, then the rod pulls out from the center of it.

 

Do you know what might be wrong with the latch? It doesn't make a lot of sense. thanks

 

try holding outside handle open and open the latch with a screwdriver

 

is everything lining up?

try lubing the mechanism

 

slam the door harder

 

I have tried everything I can think of and it won't latch. this is gonna be a bitch putting in a new latch. Can anybody think of anything else or know how to put one in? thanks.

 

it's only 3 screws and those rods. not too hard. those screws are tight as hell though
